hi all just a quick question befor i go ahead and replace my timing chain tensioner.
a little while ago my car started to play up during the 4-5k mark usually where it would splutter and really pull back then clear and go for it. also shortly after that it sometimes took a few attempts to start up.
i plugged the vag reader in and it gave me a cam positioning sensor fault so i replaced the sensor which rectified the fault code., i then took her for a drive and noticed the problem remained and when i got back the fault coded had reappeared and after having it changed to see if i had just been given a faulty sensor it remained the same again.

a few days later i found myself randomly at a vw and audi specialist with my friends car and thought id ask while i was there if they could shine any light on it for me.
a very helpfull bloke ran a full diognostic for free and found the cam sensor as i knew he would, and after explaing this story straight away he said it must be the timing chain tensioner as this would mean sometimes the timing would be the slightest bit out causing it not to start and also make it hesitant through the rev range.

im not doubting him at all as he is a specialist but just wanted to see if anyone would back this or have a different idea befor i spend £130 on a tiny part like that as i plan to do it monday
    much appreciation to your views

If its a VVT mechanism, then yes i have seen this a few times now. Only way is genuine and at £400 it's properly painful
