I'm going to be replacing my timing belt in the coming weeks. Engine is a CAHA common rail 2.0tdi 170. I'm not shy about carrying out my own work on my cars but the amount of posts i read about the tensioner stud snapping after the belt being replaced.

I've got a genuine Audi timing belt kit and water pump, the kit doesn't include the stud for the tensioner, just a new nut. Question is should i buy the stud and replace or just fit the new nut and torque up as per spec? So many mixed answers on forums, some say leave it some say change it, nearly every post i come across is a failed PD tensioner, never the CR engines.

I replaced the wife's BKD PD 2.0tdi timing belt 2 years ago without replacing the stud(hadn't read the horror stories then) its running fine with no issues!
