Timing Belt Question from a newcomer

Hello,
just picked up a 98 A4 2.8.
I asked if it used at timing belt or chain and found out a belt and someone told me to change it at 80 thousand, but I didnt know if they meant miles or kilometers,
So i was wondering at how many Miles it should or is recommended to be changed at.

I just hit 75,000 miles

Actually it is 90,000 miles.

But I would do it now in the unlikely event that your car may have been clocked...
