Timing belt 1.9

    Just been to audi to get my temp sender, and decided to get a price on getting my timing belt done by them.

    All the part came in to about 260 inc vat, then a couple of hundred for labour.
    but the nice man at audi said they would do the whole job inc water pump, and aux belt for £500

    which I thought was a really good price. So I think il be getting that done soon

    i had my cam belt (kit) and water pump replaced along with thermostat and cts and aux belts for around the £320 mark (i supplied aux belts) from a vw/audi specialist near me might be worth shopping round buddy

    I did mine for just less than £250 all in

    this included water pump stat and aux belts and coolant

    having worked on a lot of audi's I wouldn't touch one for less than £350 all in

    is this a standard are of pricing for 2 litre and under models then? I am going to test drive an A4 S-line special edition tomorrow and thinking of having the cam belt done fairly sharpish If i get it as its just hit 70K. Its a 2 Litre turbo model 220bhp.

    I can't do it myself as I don't have the experience. But I've looked about and there's no vag specialists around my area.
    Il keep looking but if I can't find anywhere il just get audi to do it.

    I thought 500 wasn't bad from audi tbf. Yeah I would like it to be cheaper.

    I used to do a full cambelt + water pump and aux. belts for £250 all in. It also included 5L of g12 antifreeze and a
    proper setting of the syncro angle with vcds...does that make me a cowboy ? I always use quality Contitech belts and i never had a belt fail yet...done hundreds !

    Props to whoever can change a cambelt fullstop...I literally would not even know where to begin.

    who mentioned anything about cowboys??

    you probably got the parts far cheaper then me?

    like I said I wouldnt touch one for less then £350 its not worth my time when I can earn more money doing other jobs

    attempting a cambelt change would be as good as doing a rubiks cube blindfolded with baby oil on my hands. lool

    I sourced all my bits from ecp. Cam belt & tensioner, 2 x aux belts & tensioner, water pump & coolant for £170. My local garage fitted for £150. I felt £320 all in was a good price and it runs silky smooth. Well, smooth for a diesel!

    £500 from Audi main dealer sounds ok but be sure to insist this price includes both cambelt and aux belt tensioners, not just the belts.

    Ps admin - paid for a sticker but no show yet. Can someone check this please. Thanks Mark.

    I can do a 4 cyl cambelt in 3 hours, parts are just shy of 150 trade prices...
    In this day and age you need to be competitive better to not have time than having to much not being busy !

    thats the thing I don't get things at trade prices and do this sort of thing in my own spare time

    Out of curiosity would you recommend to do the torsion value straight after the belt change or after its stretched and worn in a bit.

    I ask because people have mixed response to this. Would you go about doing it twice; once after the change and then again after couple of hundred miles later?

    well after 20k on my current belt the torsion value hasnt changed

    I would do it after the belt has been changed

    Ok that clears a lot then. Thanks.

    One last thing. What would you recommend the torsion value to be set at? Or whats on yours currently as mines on -0.5

    they say closest to 0 is best

    but I have also heard each car is different and is supposed to be on the data sticker on the cam belt cover but I'm yet to see this
