Anyone out there run Thule roof bars on their avant?

    With the 757 feet?

    yes but not those feet
mine are the same profile but lock on the end of the bar rather than on the side of the feet.

bulky solution to a problem that didnt exist by the looks of it

    what feet and bars?
    got any pics?

    what bars?
    have you had any issues?

I'm in talk with Thule at the moment bout the damage the feet caused to my roof.
Wondering if it happened to any one else.

    Took the paint off.

I followed their instructions, the standard Audi fitments points and moving them all around a bit to get my roof box to fit and it appears they sat/sit to far forward and took the paint off where the feet touches the roof.

Bit of a pain but nothing massive.
I've emailed Thule and they've asked for images and more details about the car, I've given them all that just waiting for a reply.

The feet clamp around the roof bars, so have you had to mount yours so far forward? i just clamped mine (3 bike racks) to where they sat in the middle of the car.

I use a roof box and cause of its size I need to mount them that far forward and back.

I can adjust them a little bit but it will still rub or the roof box will sit to far back and hit the tail gate or the bars and box will sit in the middle of the rails and I don't really want to push it holding up 100kg of weight.

I guess the point is that I did it as per the instructions of both Audi and thule and it did damaged my car. :|

    that sounds weird
I have never mounted mine in the recommended spots (one reason is that I would think closer to the rail post rather than in the middle has to be stronger)

how does it touch the paint?

I had 400kg of IKEA wardrobe on the roof once.....

they are stronger than you think!

That's my thinking. I would not want to trust it out in the middle or away from the recommended points.

wow, 400kg is allot, I would never carry that and would not really want to push it that far over the weight limit.

    Here's a couple of images.

Just a side note just in case Thule or any one reads this.
I'm not bad mouthing Thule, that not my intention.
I love their products (hence having bars, box, feet and key set), I just want to tell them about this.

    Just seen this Scott,
My old roof rack for my B5 passat (same make) but the old style had a lot of clearance (maybe a fat finger) between the foot & the roof from end to end (bars not rack) as I use to carry ladders (double 12's).
I hope you get this sorted.

The feet don't look right. Here's mine with the aero bars.

The feet are model 755. I can't get a finger under mine (and no I don't have butcher's fingers), but there is a gap and it doesn't rest on the paint.

Someone mentioned 400kg... jeez that's way too much weight. Sure the car will carry it, but if there was an accident then the insurance company would wash their hands of it. The load is only as secure as the fixing points, and the breaking strain of the straps. On the A4 avant - the maximum roof load weight is 75kg.

  18. Ive used thule gear on an A3 (L) with the 750 foot pack and with my old S4 Avant with the rectangular cross bar (so i could swap between the two cars and just change the foot pack). Anyway i have always been mighty impressed. Been at 80/85 with two 15 foot kayaks for 9 hours driving and once had to boot it in the S4 from 1st off a round-about to get into the correct lane - fastest Kayaks around!!

Anyway, i have two roof rails for sale if Thule dont cough up which i have just removed from a 2000 A4 2.8Q i am breaking.

  19. 400Kg on the roof is mad...

Should have mentioned - the Thule system with the 755 feet were previously on my 80 Avant (B4). Straight swap to the B5.

Got a email from Thule this morning.

They mentioned about the 775 feet.

Just need to see what they want to do about it.
Offer them to me in exchange for my 757s, give them to me for free since their old kit damaged my roof and not worry about the repair or make my pay for the 775s (they stopped selling them in 09) and keep my 757s.

    I'll see what they say.
albeit slow they seem to be ok so far.
