    Dude,

I'm curious to know, and this is a serious question...what do you like about all that chrome on your car in all those places? I know it's your taste, but I want to drill down a bit more...what in particular do you like about it? What feeling does it give you and how do you think it benefits the look of the car in your eyes?

Personally I have always prefered chrome (it's art deco look) on cars - it kinda brings something else out of a car and makes the whole car stand out that bit more than just having a gleaming one tone car. All through my life the cars that really have caught my eye on the road have had chrome on them and so I consider it ageless. The popular trend now is dechrome as much as possible although back in the late 80's they did an BMW M6 which looked awsome dechromed as standard, but really I think it was the shape and overall look that stood out and not the fact it was dechromed and I think the exact same thing applies to today's cars. The Audi S3, I consider to be a nice little unassuming hot hatch and want people to glance again at it with recognition - although it's clear most of you disagree. I wouldn't say get any old car and stick chrome on it and get recognition becasue you you need to take into account it's colour, condition, and any existing chrome on the car. Plus you may get recognition, but for the wrong reasons ! I use to own an 1980 Ford RS2000 with the colour coded drop snoot at the front - there was hardly any chrome on that (apart from the badge) and quite rightly so. Any extra chrome on that just made it plain ugly and there were other things already that made it stand out from the other escorts of it's day. The only chroming I did on that car was the outer wheel rim face on the Rs alloys.
Ok I agree, the chrome on my car has not been put on professionally and as such can lower the look of the whole car (in fact anything done badly doesn't reflect well !), but I still maintain it's not that terribly bad and doesn't drag the car down. I've taken off the chrome strip around the rear spoiler insert for 2 reasons: attracted ones eye to that part of the car and it was quite dirty and secondly it was very difficult to get straight. But if I can sort that out in future I would do it again.
The dechroming on those NEW Audi smooth lined shapes look cool if you like that sort of a look. It gives them a very modern look, but I think it has more to do with their shape than the dechroming aspect plus in my opinion the chrome equivalent gives them more class appeal.
The total dechroming look also reminds me of those sneak pictures that use to appear in Auto express of future test models seen on roads. Also I recenlty saw a picture of some super car in matt black with dark alloys - the comments were that it looked awsome. The shape of the car was certainly awsome, but really here was a case of the mat black blinding a person. And do you mean to tell me that any extra attention this car gets on the road is the fact it is painted in a very dull matt black colour and dark alloys or is it it's shape ???
