I think it's to do with the torque and only the auto box can handle it for the life of the vehicle.

Unfortunately, in my experience, the badge snobbery seems to come from everyone else and not the BM drivers themselves.

As for the 335i Coupe being more of a cruiser than sports coupe I'd suggest you take one out for a little spin... Although the S5 with it's V8 does sound nicer...

I'm not arguing on the rep image though as there are a lot of them on the road. Would this stop me from having one? Nope not at all.

For all those that say they would have a Porker instead of a TT-s/S5/335i is this because you don't do any miles?

In assuming I'd be interested in a 335i/S5/TT-S, I'm assuming my circumstances would have changed significantly, in that I wouldn't be bothered about passenger space or wanting to go long distances etc.
I would never consider a TT of any kind, I just don't like them
I wouldn't consider an S5, they're just too unwieldy looking.
335i would be a possibility, but I'd rather have a Cayman.
Having said that, a 335D would rule over any of them.

Spins already said the Cayman/Boxster's no good for him day in day out.

I was aiming at the others as they have said they wouldn't consider the BM/Audi but would opt for a porker. Now a 997 has got rear seats of sorts so you could carry a little one. But can you really do 35-40K a year in one without it being worthless after a year? Looking at the prices of 5/6 year old ones they seem to have covered about 6K a year.

I say the Cayman without having ever driven one because:

    I like the looks
Reading reviews its a very good car and it also happens to be a Porsche!

Wouldn't have any of the cars mentioned including the Cayman if I was doing anything other than pleasure mileage

Thats it , peeps like us couldn't buy a 911 and use it day in day out as our main car , it'll be worth nothing in a year or so.

So it comes down to the " well off " who use them day in day out and trade them in after 2/3 years or the peeps who can afford them as there weekend toy.

Non applicable for any of the above myself. :)

For those of you who say putting the mileage on Porsche will destroy the value. Have a look on the Porsche approved site. There's three year old Boxsters on there with 60K miles selling for nearly £30K.

Tell me you'd get that for a BMW 3 series!

    I use mine everyday...

Being priced at £30K doesn't mean selling for that figure, I looked at a Cayman 3.4S priced at £39,995 and agreed a PX value on the S3, after a days negotiation this was reduced by £4K to £35,995. This would have included only 12 months warranty with a cost of £750 to extend for a second year.

It was an attractive deal but at the end of the day I wanted the option of occasional rear seats for my 19 month old daughter, not used them yet but the option is useful.

The driving experience from both variants of the Porsche were nothing short of superb but as its an everyday car and I'm a Dad they just didn't tick the boxes for me, The Cayman is a great car but more of a weekend tool IMO, factor in the minimal 2 year warranty and expensive servicing/road tax/fuel etc and for me its not an option.

The question for me really is TTS versus 335i Coupe both of which will come with a full 3 year warranty, similar residuals and both obtainable for £35K new.
