According to an article in this week's Auto Express the new Audi A3, which is due for release in 2011, will be the first VAG model to use a new platform. This platform is not the one used for the current Golf 6 but a new one that is slightly longer and wider. This new platform will also be used for the Golf 7 as well as the Passat replacement.

Auto Express are not always right - they said that the new RS3 was going to be launched at Frankfurt for example - but it would seem logical and their pictures in the same article of the new Golf 7 are based on a promotional video for VW's L1 concept which accidentally revealed a group of designers in the background hard at work on a clay styling model of the next generation Golf, suggesting a particularly short life cycle for the current car.
