temp hand gone mad!

i have a 2.5 tdi quattro and the temp hand has gone mad rises up to 90 and fall back then sits around 70 may rise to 90 for a few seconds and fall to 50 rise again and then stay at 90 for a good length of time but the car seams to run fine and never rises above 90 and help thanks first post great site!

Faulty temp sender? VAG-COM or dealer diag should tell the full story
