Just wondered if you guys are aware of these wearing and causing oil pump failure ? Mine is in having a service and a new drive as a precaution . My friend who is a ex vw master tech who now runs his family business was telling me the horror stories from when in vw .

The part is about £8 but sadly 5 hours to fit it and he recommends.it being done every 60/70k

Really, on a B8, I only know of the previous chassis being so problematic.

Yeh b8 . The early drives are hollow and the later ones are solid and hardend . I'm picking up the car tomorrow so will grab the old drive

your missing the half of it , if your mate knows his stuff then he will know that vw/audi changed the whole oil pump drive part for a newer one . i bought the part myself at a cost of £250 exchange ,the part you are buying is just a plain old allen key with the end cut off basically .and yes it does have a hole in the old one but it does not cure the problem that i can guarantee .

the new drive and key are modified the key is 100mm long where the old one is approx 75mm long ,the drive is redesigned so that the keyway is alot deeper and the key is a very tight fit .

old design only allows key to insert around 10-15mm and is loose even when new . my advice would be to fit the whole new part ,you have to do the same amount of work to get to it . and the new part has a lifetime unlimited mileage warranty against failure .

for the £250 now £225 you get the allen key plus the new balance shaft ,you need to change both these parts for it to be bullet proof .

ive honestly seen a 6mm allen key cut down and used as a bodge on the older b7 models .

have a look on ebay for balancer shaft repair

replacement parts cost £225 ,no idea what they will charge to fit in your neck of the woods . symptoms are low oil pressure light on
    mileage 80,000 upwards.
look on kmbpartsdirect and look at the balance shaft kit

It's 5.5 hours work as the subframe has to be removed . And as with any oil light turn the car off that instant
