Looking at getting a remap in the very near future, just wondering whether it would be worthwhile getting a de-DPF, exhaust system fitted before?

Will i see significant gains with de-DPF/exhaust system over standard system?
Is it true that remapped 170's have problems with the DPF's after remaps or is that old news?

    Any advice is appreciated,

    Thanks.

If your going to remap it i would deffinately get the DPF removed as well. The DPF is a badly designed piece of **** that is well known for constantly playing up and no the DPF doesn`t like to be remapped. You will gain an extra 20-30 bhp with the DPF removed and you will not have to piss about doing regen cycles and having the DPF telling you how to drive the car any more.

Deleting the DPF will cause a little smoke out the rear though, but if your gaining 20-30bhp whos cares! :)

Thanks for the responses guys. So you helped to decide on a De-DPF along with a remap.

Now my next quandry is as follows...

Shark Performance - DPF-Off (Cut out DPF) and Shark Remap - £619 (Increased to 215BHP and 300lb/ft)
JBS Auto Design - DPF-Off (Replace with Miltek Downpipe) and Custom-Code Remap - £735 (Increased to 210-240BHP and 310-340lb/ft)

I feel that Shark's power claims are a little underwhelming considering AMD can produce 195BHP / 315lb/ft with the DPF.
Is shark sticking to 300lb/ft to conserve the clutch or is it that JBS figures are somewhat optimistic?

Will my standard clutch give up fairly rapidly with JBS mid-range claims of 230BHP/330lb/ft?

Please may i have your opinions as i am stuck between the two options.

    Thanks.

Thats my results after a REVO remap on my 170 quattro. I was hoping for a little more tbh with around 10 more brake.

300 lb is the quoted max torque of the clutch. If you want more torque Shark claim to be mappers so they should be able to give your car the same torque as what JBS/CC claim. I would be interested to know what Shark actually do with the DPF censors if they just cut out the down pipe and fit a straight bit of pipe or have copied the Miltek enlarged down pipe with places for the censors. Which ever place you go make sure you get a before and after dyno done so you know what power the map is actually making.

If my understanding is correct, they split the downpipe, hollow out the DPF then weld back together. Thus keeping the appearance of having a DPF, without the filtering aspect, i can only assume all sensors remain in place.

AFAIK there are no MOT issues without the DPF as the only testing conducted under MOT is a smoke test for Diesels. However removing the DPF is illegal elsewhere in europe.

I just had my PD170 mapped at AmD :)

As its DSG, Shaun could not get a true read from the Dyno but the reading that was gained before the car jumped to 5th was 191Bhp!
This is with the DPF still in place.

I could go for a full De-DPF in the future with Miltek and a map change for around £850. Think I'll play with what I have for now!

All I can say is what a difference already!

Oh yeh, I had a panel filter fitted too.

I take it Shaun/AMD don`t know how to dyno a car with a DSG box then ?
Give him a ring and tell him the next time he puts a car on the dyno with a DSG box to get a correct reading just remove the ESP fuse and do the test in manual mode, (5fth gear in case of the 8 gear multitronic). The test then can be done, Do not touch the kick down.

Mine has been remapped since December with the DPF still on and had no problems with the DPF.
