i know they arent as rare as the S3, the sound from the exhausts are awesome (bag of spanners sound)..... not many yellow ones which is where the rarity comes into it.

saying that ive driven the misus mini the past 2 days and love the fact that its small and you dont have to worry about the size of the car so much...even compared to the S3, think this would be maybe 2 sizes bigger...boooo

Well, it's not like you are stepping sideways in terms of class, but going upto the next level which is exciting! I quite like these M3's myself, but can't see myself owning one, but never say no huh.

na, ive always liked em but this colour is the only one i think id consider.... looks a bit weird at the back end too around the exhausts..think its just crappy trim

insurance is coming out at £800 ish so not massive at the side of what it is now, need to test drive i think as dont expect it will be as easy to chuck around as this

    M3 yes
    But YELLOW :puke2:

Imho if you drive a nice car,it has to be a nice colour but everyone to their own.

If i was 21 again then yeah maybe id go for yellow.Just seems to make it look old (bit of a early 2000 colour if you ask me)

Its your money at the end of the day so only you can decide if thats what you want.

Good luck whatever you decide though :icon_thumright:

Tim you're going from probably the most desirable and resalable S3 (dolphin grey) to probably the least desirable and resalable M3 (yellow)!

I am a fan of the E46 M3 and they are good value at the moment, I was looking at loads (only online) and then drove my friends - it was nice, and fast, but I didn't get as much of a buzz as I thought I would, and when I got back in my car I realised mine is nice (possibly nicer to be inside) and also fast, so I don't think I'd be getting all that much more than I have now.
Don't get me wrong, I think M3's are better cars (getting nervous about saying that :sadlike:), but S3's are close and have some advantages over M3's (no I'm not trying to start the S3 vs M3 thread!)

Have you driven it, or another yet? You might find that like me it makes you realise that the S3 is a decent car that you don't need to leave yet?

Tim forget the naysayers and the sheep who copy Clarkson by saying only cocks drive BMW's, the M3 is a fantastic car. The engine is superb, and I personally love the exhaust note although it is subjective. The interior is not too bad as long as it's got Sat Nav and the premium HK sound system, the one you've linked to doesn't!

Way better to drive than the standard S3, sounds nicer, not that much more thirsty and generally better equipped. If you can afford it, do it! I personally think yellow is too loud on a car with an image as dubious as the M3, but to each their own. Dakar yellow will also be harder to sell on too. As it has no Sat Nav I think you could bring them down on the price a bit.

    yup certainly does Dan haha.....

this one is 160 odd miles away so gonna have a drive around Saturday if i get time (detailing the car for pod on sunday), ive not driven one at all so its an open book at the moment...although do think having the power and only 2 wheels to lay it down will be a severe issue as i am a lazy driver especially when ive had a long day at work and like booting it knowing it will stick in all weathers

im getting the feeling the yellow isnt being felt :)...i still would have to see the dakar yellow to know for certain.... also liking the blue, silver and black are far too common

regardless i need to drive one before colour comes into it, will try and test drive one that im likely to buy just incase a good deal gets offered though....

A lovely car imo, its just a shame 95% are driven by posers who cant drive, with only 5% I see being driven by proper enthusiasts. And I wouldnt touch yellow mate, blue sounds a good idea though.

having driven one I would buy one in a flash. they sound awesome and drive like cars should straight off the forecourt. the colour is an issue IMO.
that said I can't see the price on the link for some reason and it won't let me enlarge the pics.
what is it going for and what is wrong with the interior?

    I love them!

was looking at them before i bought my s3 was so close to getting one in "Carbon Black",

but decided against it as it was alot more money for me,sor of glad i did not now as want other things (bike), and the way things are have dropped in price,

But sometimes i still get a little feeling that i wish i got one, but i do like my s3, the insurance was not too bad being a group 20 it was only another £350 to insure on top of my 1300 ish i pay now lol, with me being early 20's and a car worth alot more thought it was good,

Have a drive of one they are very nice, imo carbon black or the gunmetal type grey they do, or the "phoenix yellow" which is nice, i really like them and if you have a drive and really like it and you fund it i would definately go for one, but i love the s3's and i have honestly seen about 3 s3's near me(essex) could count at least 5 e46 m3' in my town that i know of,

Have you considered a convertable one? cheers Oksi

    No no no and no!

    Yellow......mate....you can't be serious?

You've got some style about you as you have the best colour S3. You'll look like a faggot in a yellow M3, vanity case and straightners in the boot?

Keep with your car and as many said on my htread recently, save and get a 996 - 911 Turbo! Now "that" is a proper car. Nice ancd quick!

Tim... Why would most of us possibly want to talk you out of buying an M3 ?? The cars is an absoulute animal, I'd love one...not that colour though, it does still look nice but a little loud...if you can afford to buy and run/maintain it then do it...

they are nice, performance wise they arent massively more powerful than what ive got, they are big heavy chuffs with rear wheel drive and **** boring 'usual' BM dash boards.... i love the outside and the sound of the exhausts and thats the only reason im considering the car otherwise i would have got one in the first place instead of what i have now....

ive got the message about the yellow though, cheers fellas!! must be my early middle age kicking in booooooo........

they are a different car to the S3 and i think the defining factor will be if i can put the power down like i can in this, honestly dont think thats gonna be possible talking to a mate of a mate who has one.... from what he was saying it bogs down when traction control is on and when its off it just snakes everywhere

I am the voice of reason:

    - Services will be more expensive
    - MPG will be a lot worse
    - Tyres will cost a fortune (especially the wide rears)
    - Insurance is more too

I would have bought an M3 a long time ago if it wasn't for the above.
