I agree with these guys, you can spend thousands modding your car but a) Insurance could be silly & b) When you come to sell it you will not get back much if at all any money spent modding.
I would go for the S3.

This has turned into quite an interesting thread, which I'd summarise as "modified 2.0Tq -v- S3"!

I'm not averse to mod'ing my 2.0Tq, but I think I think getting an S3 would be a lot less hassle! As people say, a mod'ed car is still no S3.

My biggest reservation remains paying top whack for a car likely to be replaced next year, if not sooner... :(

You could use that to haggle a good discount off an S3 though, I think when the new model comes out the S3 would come fairly soon thought, maybe within 6 months?
I wonder if it will use a K04 2.0TSI chain drive thats in the mk6 GTI, as in the Golf R they have used the old TFSI cam driven HPFP motor.

Why? They never have previously. Audi, like most manufacturers, release base models first and the 'trick' versions come along later, much later in Audi's case. The 8p was launched on..04 or 54 plates. S3 didn't appear until at least 2 years later.

^^ I have several (push) bikes - they're more important to me than cars!

Well motorbikes are like push bikes, just a bit quicker :)

Whilst that used definitely to be true, look at the A5. The first two models released were the S5 and the TDi quattro. So maybe the Audi strategy has changed now...

    Cheers,

Thats the case with the RS models but NOT the S models anymore..the S4 and S6 came out very soon after those models launch,
