Sudden loss of power

Help, my 2008 1.9tdi has an intermittent fault where it has a sudden loss of power as if you had taken your foot off the accelerator, power loss can be a few times in a 2 mile trip or it can go a few hundred miles between doing it. When the power cuts off it looses power completely and revs drop to idle revs and sit there. If you pop the clutch in and then out it cures it and you drive on as normal. If you take your foot off the accelerator completely and the back on it it also cures it!

The engine light came on after a few instances of this happening and when the code was read it was a MAP sensor fault. I replaced the sensor but it made no difference.

any ideas what else I should try?

    Thanks

you need to get a scan done
it could be a simple thing like a pedal switch

Hi, thanks for responding, I've had it scanned and the only fault showing was the MAP sensor as above. Any other ideas?

when you replaced the MAF did the lights go off on the dash? try clearing the faults , if that no good , unplug the MAf and try driving it see if the power delivery is better ?

Hi, the fault code was for the MAP sensor so I've replaced the 2.5bar map sensor in the intercooler pipe and had the light reset. EM light came back on first time it juddered afterwards. Same fault when codes read again.

Are you saying I should look at the MAF next?

    Thanks

There will be a massive difference in driving, as when you unplug MAF on a diesel it will feel very sluggish- as if it was in limp mode.

Tried this only sat on the drive - no difference with it plugged in or not at idle or revving on the drive - do I need to go round the block to test properly?

Also, looking at my service history/receipts the problem started a few weeks after having the fuel filter replaced, is it worth checking I don't have a blockage or would that show a different code?

    Thanks
