Subwoofer noise

I usualy listen to the radio but when i have it on low the noise from the sub is awful it sounds like some one is playing a different song in the boot and is not a thump thump like you would expect but sounds more like it has blown. When i turn it up the sound or play a cd the sound and base is a lot better.

Is this normal? Does the base sound better as it is coming through the speakers more and not the sub?

Worst case scenario is the subwoofer has cracked, but we're not there to hear what you are, so maybe remove the rear passenger quarter cover & check if its damaged, assume you have adjusted the bass settings on the head unit, basic I know but worth a go.

You haven't turned the bass right up when in radio mode ?

Put the radio and press tone, check the settings going through them by again pressing tone. Then play cd and check settings again.

Sounds like an odd fault, I would of thought that if the Sub was at fault it would get worse the louder it was.
