Stupid question time

    Hi folks,

    After cleaning my motor the other day I noticed the fuel filler neck area was horribly dirty so I blasted it clean with the pressure washer. However the water was not draining away in the filler neck through the drain point (small white insert).

    I reckoned its blocked and tried to clear it by pushing the shank of a small drill bit down it but it was solid. I can't get on vagcat at the moment to see the arrangement of the filler neck but was hoping for some useful advice.

    Try a can of compressed air with a small nozzle, wedge it in there and blast the **** out.

    I assume it's not some sort of blanking plug. The other end of what is likely to be a rubber tube with the outlet under the car somewhere is not the place to poke from as there might be an integral one-way flap fitted. If you can clear the initial crud try some flexible curtian wire and solid wire might damage or puncture the tube walls

    Shoot it with a shot gun but make sure you miss the tank because there will be an explosion !
    But seriously just get wire hanger it will clean it out same thing happened with mine

    Had the same with mine, cleared it with a piece of semi ridgid wire. Overflow comes out the rear wheel arch.

    Blow it out with carb cleaner or similar with a tube attached

    Make sure the shotgun is sawn off as a normal pump action wont cover the whole area lol

    Just a quick update to let anyone with the same problem know the solution. I had a roll of solder wire about 1-2mm thick which I carefully pushed down the drain, I felt a bit resistance at a couple of points so worked it back and forth to clear out the dirt. The water drains out just behind the wheel arch.

    Next stupid question whilst I'm here: whilst swapping my front and rear wheels to even out the tyre tread wear I noticed the front hub nuts did not have a cover whereas the rears did, am I missing a couple of front covers?

    Your fronts are your driven wheels so they are un capped.

    Thought that was the case but I recalled a mk2 Golf that had covers which made me wonder. Thanks
