ok so i have had my car on the road since its cylinder head replaced in DecemberBut now after only 2 months of use and about 4k miles the oil warning light has come on. is this normal to use a full engine of oil in such a short time after a major component replacement?i know the car had a full service while it was in the garage and i have not had many issues with it since it cam out.the wife was driving the car to work and she said the car made a loud "groaning" noise before the oil min warning came on.what would your advice be? contact the garage that did the engine work? also in the mean time whats the best oil to put in the car?

Doesn't sound too good to be honest. Hard to diagnose as I'm not diesel savvy. Id say take it back to where they did the work as that is a lot of oil to use in a couple of months.

Oil wise, if you use a fully synthetic oil then Castrol 5w-30 Edge 4 litres which is VW504 00 and VW507 00 compliant would be one choice (as supposedly Castrol SLX Longlife II has been discontinued) , but if you want to use something cheaper Mobil 1 at Halfords is a tenner off at present so is cheaper than the Castrol and is 5 litres instead of 4 (LINK)

an amusing addition to this story now!rang the wife to go check the oil level. the conversation went something like this:me: open the bonnether: how?me: inside the drivers side there is a small lever along the right hand inside edge of the drivers footwellher: i am sat in the drivers seat and cant see anythingme: do you see the cubby hole down the right?her: yes!me: put your hand over it then slide forward and you will feel a little lever that you need to pull towards you.her: i cant feel anything! wait actualy i can feel something but it pulls down not towards me .......me: ok did you feel/hear a mechanical clunk?her: no all it does it move the steering wheel!me: thats the rake adjust in the center not the bonnet release!!! take another look for the bonnet release.her: wait ok i found it. now how do i open the bonnet?me: walk around the front of the car and it should have opened slightly. there should be a little hand hold to operate to open it fullyher: ok its open nowme: ok pull the dipstick outher: there is no dipstick but steve is here (a workmate)me: put steve on the phone! (getting irate now)steve was able to check the oil level and its about halfway so the oil warning light should not have come on saying oil min. but i told her she has enough to get her home tonight so i will take another look at the car when she gets back.she also said the remote central locking is not working now! GREAT!!!looks like i really did buy a LEMON!!!

i have a 2 year warranty on the head. the garage that did the work was an audi speciallist and they said the warranty will be covered by any main dealer but we will see!

My mother-in-laws level sensor has just given up the ghost.
08 plate 170 TDi with only 12k on the clock.
Needless to say, she's not too chuffed.
Safe enough to drive so long as the level gets checked daily.
Had it been the oil pressure sensor I wouldn't risk it.

if it was an audi specialist i cant see the mail dealers covering the work
if they used oem parts they will be covered under the 2 year but they will have to strip it down
and if the parts are the problem they will sort it
if theres a diffrent problem your gona have a big bill

This made me laugh so hard, going for the rake adjust instead of the bonnet release. :keule:

unsure weather they checked the piston rings but i am going to give the car a once over tomorrow and take a look to see what it could be. As when her mate checked the oil level it was at half full i am considering it was just the cold affecting the car in a weird way. (well i hope thats all it is)

Exactly main dealer wont warranty anything but the part used, as this has the 2yr warranty as advised, so your warranty is with the socalled specialist mate.

Everything can be sorted, remote is probably either flat or something minor, not often they go wrong tbh.

Level sender isnt to bad to replace from recollection I think.
