Still have clutch problem, could be pedal broken or slave cylinder

    garage today replaced the master cylinder and the pedal still stays down

    they think its now the slave cylinder which needs replacing,

    audi are charging £47 plus vat for the slave and a garage is charging for 2 hours labour,

    does that sound right ?

    Also the garage said the pedal might be broken, This is a TT common fault but has it happened to anyone with a A3/S3 ?

    Happened to me, best advice I can give is check around yourself, I got ripped off because I didnt know what was wrong. Now I do, it cost me £350 to learn that but I do.
    If the pedal box is broken (a common fault apparantly) check to see if any plastic is lying on the floor of the footwell, if so then its a hell of a lot cheaper than a new clutch, if your garage replaced the Master Cylinder and it didnt rectify the problem then it sounds like they dont have a clue and will keep replacing parts until its fixed, get a second opinion.

    yeah the garage didnt seem like they had a idea what they were doing

    to mo ill take it to a specialist and he said he will check if the pedal is broken


    what did the plastic bit look like which was broken ?

    White clip but it was in bits in the footwell, so just check for plastic in the footwell, if your anything like me it wont be too dirty so should be easy to spot.

    100% i didnt see any white plastic bits on the floor

    the tt forum thinks it might be something to do with bleeding, thats its not bled properly

    I've not experienced a broken pedal, but get your head under there to see if the push rod is still moving correctly. If it is then it'll be pushing fluid.

    Bleeding the system is very simple. Simple single line from the master to slave, but I guess if there is air in there, it would cause a prob.

    When my slave went, the pedal did stick to the floor like yours is.

    The slave on the S3 is a gearbox off job, so I think the offer of 2 hours labour will be a misquote unfortunately.

    i swear its doing my head in,

    HTC to bleed the system, is the bleed valve under the battery but alot lower down if that makes sense,

    I can fully believe that!

    Yeah bleed nipple is in that area. Its on the bell housing. Follow the bendy hard clutch line in the area of the gear cables. It'll lead to it.

    Process for bleeding require a pressure bleeder like the ones that run from a spare wheel. From the manual:

    ‒ Switch on bleeding appliance.
    ‒ Working pressure 2.0 bar

    ‒ Open bleed valve.
    ‒ Bleed off approx. 100 cm3 of brake fluid.
    ‒ Close bleed valve.
    ‒ Rapidly operate pedal 15 times from stop to stop.
    ‒ Bleed off a further 50 cm3 of brake fluid.
    ‒ Close bleed screw (tightening torque 4.5 Nm).
    ‒ Detach filling appliance from brake fluid reservoir.
    ‒ Press clutch pedal several times following completion of bleeding process.
    ‒ Bleed system again if necessary.
