Steering problems

Hi all, I jumped into the car tonight to drive home from work and there is something not right with the steering, it is really heavy at slow speeds. I have done the obvious like tyre pressures and oil level in the steering pump but that's all good. i have always thought the steering was heavy compared to my B7 2.0 tfsi quattro but assumed it was the V8 up front making it heavy. It certainly feels like there is hardly any assistance now though. Is there anything i can check before taking it in and seeing the cheapo warrenty the garage gave me is useless... Oh is an '07 S4.

Where are you located? Might be worth getting it scanned for fault codes as a first port of call

Is there likely to be any codes for the steering then?? that's good if there is because this morning I drove it to work and the steering felt perfect, lovely and light....
