starter motor, maybe ?

my car had been fine, not had any problems until last night. went to tesco car was running fine going there. parked up did my shopping came back out, went to start the car it wouldn't turn over.

i held it on the key for about 5-6seconds then it did turn over.

but now everytime i turn the car on, just after it starts it makes a noise, sort of like a screech

i think it could be the starter motor going, but not 100% on this.

if anyone has any help/information i would be very greatful

Yep, the screech of a sticking solenoid.

Typical of the 1.8T starter mate I'm afriad to say. Mine did this on my A3, and I bought a second hand one from the bay for about £15. Still going now 12 months later AFAIK.

that is a very good guide, i will give a go at a DIY fix. it that fails then i will just buy a new starter motor

It wasn't me dude, it just did it.....

It's been happening for a while.... It does it for a few I think.
