Squeaking Steering

Its come and gone over the last couple weeks but after yesterday appears to be permanent.

I get a squeaking noise coming from somewhere in the steering column behind the steering wheel.

Anyone else experienced this and is it an easy fix?

The slip ring is usually the issue, P/N 4E0 953 541 B also know as Link:- G85

Some have replaced it and still had same issue, some have adjusted elements on coloum which they think could be causing noise.

I have this sound intermittently, have spoken to my indi Audi garage, and he reckons its something to do with the column itself which is not a cheap job/ part. He has done the slip ring change on other cars and found it didn't cure it.

mine has gone again, might be something i have to live with,
although sometimes climate and atmosphere have something to do with it, more apparent when it goes from damp to dry

I've got this issue as well. Previous owner (my dad) says that it's done this for a long time. So I suppose there's relief in knowing that it's not going to fail if you guys have only just had it start.

It would be nice to fix though as it does ruin the experience a bit!

Hmm....I have noticed it on a few occasions, I will look forward to it getting worse then!! (mines a A6 3.0 Le Mans Avant 57 80 thou on the clock)....a few silly problems but a cracking car!!!

Mine did the same. Changing the servo oil cleared the problem.
