Hi all some idiot hit my car while parled and as a result need a new rear bumper.

Where can i get hold of one im guessing audi will want £500 +?

Its for a silver 98 T sport.

Nothing on ebay only bodykits which im not sure about.

What you think ?

Jason

I take it you don't have the details of who hit you? Any chance it's on CCTV?

Would be worth getting on to Audi for a quote for parts only, might 'only' be £100 if all you need is the bumper skin (but it's probably nearer £200). You should be able to get someone to spray it for £100 - 150.

Have you had the bumper off to check for any further damage to the bodywork etc?

Loads of breakers have online parts enquiry forms... Even if you cant find one in Silver you can still get it painted if the scrappie wants sensible money.

or just hold out on ebay if you wait most items tend to come up every so often

thanks for that mate well its just the rear bumper i had a look one side has all been pushed in so its a new bumper i reckon,

I'll audi a call i think

Jason

Funnily enough my 1998 A3 is silver and the bumper is less than perfect. I've been watching eBay for 3 months to see if one comes up and it hasn't.

It's only got a couple of scratches and a deformation that i'm sure only i can see, so i'd only change it if a mint silver one came up for buttons, but i haven't seen anything.

Let me know when you get it sorted and how much it costs :)

Just an update if you were interested Audi want £162.27 + Vat for just a bare bumper needs spraying too so your looking at £300 + i reckon.

I dont know what to do it looks ****** horrible driving it about like that nothing on ebay cant find nothing used im a bit stuck and dont really want to go the audi route.

Jason

Dare i say £300 doesn't sound too bad for a new bumper?

Up to you really, there are 100's of breakers out there. I'm sure there are plenty of Silver 8L A3's that have been scrapped from front or side impacts, the bumper is the same irrespective of model (except S3). If you keep trying i'm sure you'll find one. But i bet they'd want £150 for it, plus if it's miles away you've got to actually get it which could be a PITA.

Yeah £300 isnt too bad but im only young so cheaper would be better in the mean time i may as well take it off heat it and try and knock it out cant look any worse than it already is surely?

Jason

Thanks for that i was thinking about an aftermarket one but it wouldnt look right id need the whole kit...

I spoke with VAG parts they want £145.61 + Vat for a rear bumper and its a genuine audi part then i'd need it sprayed so its not looking too bad...

What i might do is try and take the bumper off myself heat it up and try and pop it out then sand the thing down what you think?

Jason

Hi sorry for all the questions just dont want to make an expensive mistake! i went onto www.everycarpart.co.uk they want 109.99 for a bumper 49.99 for spraying and 9.99 for delivery.

What do you think? should i trust them as im guessing it isnt a genuine audi part?

Dont want to waste money thats all

Thanks

Jason

This is obviously just my opinion, and i'm sure others would disagree...

Don't touch aftermarket bodyparts with a barge pole, expecially anything involving fibre-glass.

I'm not saying it's impossible to get good quality stuff that will fit perfectly and look like it's meant to be there, but 9 times of 10 it'll look cack and stuck on. The same goes for replicas of the original stuff.

If that 'everycarpart' is OE then great, if not then for the sake 0f £30 don't bother.

£50 for spraying is encouraging. Have you rung a few local bodyshops for quotes? If at all possible always go with a recommended bodyshop, it's extremely easy to spray something badly - you don't want the new bumper to stick out like a sore thumb so colour matching is important.

I know a vag specialist breakers I think they are called motors in motion or something Ill find you a link when I get in.

thanks for all your help so far you guys have been great!

Motors in motion had nothing, so im left with a couple of options now..

Vagparts and order the bumper and get it sprayed

Or... get a bodykit for it i dont want nothing chavtastic though what do you think ? maybe an s3 erplica kit i dont know?

You think its too risky and i should just get the original from vagparts or would a bodykit be a good idea seen a few 1.8t's on here with body kits so i dont know.

Your help is much appreiciated

Jason

lol, how have you gone from saying £300 is expensive to replace the bumper to thinking you want a full bodykit?

For what it's worth i used to have a modified Leon Cupra and had the full bodykit from a Leon Cupra R fitted (bumpers and skirts), i got the parts heavily discounted and it still cost about £1500 to get it all done...

Fair enough then! i know some-one that can fit and spray cheap for me that was all, think i'll just get the rear bumper as i said before and save the cash for a set of coilovers.

Thanks every-one for your help!

Peice of cake mate! Anytime you need Audi parts, sod going to an Audi dealer... Talk to a guy called Martin at www.vagparts.com (number on the site). He is VERY knowledgeable (he even is able sometimes to identify parts by the number from memory). Their prices are consistantly significantly lower than from Audi or that I know, from anywhere! All genuine VW / Audi parts. I've spent over £1000 with them and I'd recommend to anyone. Excellent company!:o.k:

look at post#10 mate :)

Hiya mate not sure if its what your looking for but there are a couple of s3 front & rear bumpers on e(xpense)bay at moment. Good luck if you decide to have a bid, sometimes go for nearly as much as new.

I think you'd need the S3 mounting guides and arch liner extensions. Then the bumper would have a cutout that doesn't match your exhaust. It's not as simple as just buying a backbox either because the bodywork behind the bumper would need cutting to match.

i see! not as simple as that then! i got a bumper yesterday but its blue im going to need it sanded primed nd sprayed not point doing it myself, any-one got any recommendations for some-one to do this for me in surrey....?

i thought you said you knew someone that can fit and spray for you in the cheap?

You get what you pay for. I wouldnt let a pikey anywhere near my car, no matter how cheap.

A Milltek or a blue flame system for a 2wd 1.8t golf would fit into the back bumper hole as they are designed to go through the anniversary rear valence and there is only very minimal cutting to bodywork needed.

yes it would, but then again a milltek backbox is about £290 plus the cost of having the bodywork cut and properly finished to avoid rust. Not exactly the cheap solution he was looking for :)

I am not sure how much difference there is in our cars and I have not finally fitted my s3 rear to car but took origional off the other day to trial fit prior to respraying, there are 6-8 hex screw fixings along the length of top edge (where boot shuts) these line up 100% and the sides of bumper slot into origional guides the wheel arch liners holes or bumper holes will need lining up as these are different and also dont match 100% but as far as I remember there was no holes or daylight showing through I reckon a strip of smooth seam sealer and you'll not notice it. As the wheel arches are not as wide on std as s3's the lip needs a bit of reprofiling also to get bumper to fit contour of rear wing I used a hot air gun to gently remould and reshape. Not a simple bolt on away you go but will look good...(I hope) should have mine on in week or so. will advise.
