Just thought I'd share this with you guys.

For the other two people in the country who didn't buy an iPod there is now a solution to the problem of hooking up your Sony HD Walkman to your Audi H/U. Adapters have been around for a while that would let you just play from your Walkman but offered no functionality through the H/U. A bit of a pain because everytime you wanted to change at track or whatever you had to fish around in the glovebox.

I've now had one of these fitted http://www.caraudioplus.co.uk/iPod_...rs_for_Factory_Radios/Audi_Sony_NW-HD_Adapter and can now fully control my Walkman through my Concert II. More info is here http://www.connects2.co.uk/c2search.aspx?catID=15&manID=202&modID=561 but ignore the reference to '98-'03. Coupled with the NW series volume limiter hack http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184051 I reckon it sounds pretty damn good. Now to see if I can get my MD player to run too :)

Many thanks to Source Sounds in Sheffield for all the help http://www.incarexpert.co.uk/source/index.html

I've now ditched the NW-HD3 for the new MZ-RH1 Hi-MD player (lovely bit of kit) and I'm using that in the car. Functionality through the head unit is the same as before.

Hi mate, I live locally to Source at Chapeltown. How much did the adaptor and the installation cost for the Sony adaptor from Source. I own a A3 and deffo want this work done. The Belkin Tunecast that i have tried is absolutely crap.:banghead:

Cheers Garry

I ordered the adapter from CarAudioPlus (see the link above) and I think Source charged me an hour which I was about £40. Ask for Christian.

To add to my previous review, the display on the Concert II is limited ie it's used to changing 6 CDs so CDC goes 1 - 6 then back to one again etc but if you just want to stop fishing around in the glovebox then this is the solution.

Which Sony player have you got?

I have the Sony NW-HD5 30gig. I thought about having the Audi ipod kitted fitted and purchasing an ipod, but would rather keep the Sony if possible. I have contacted Source and they have quoted me £149ish. What did you pay for the adaptor from CarAudioplus and what was the part number?

Cheers Garry

As I said, click here http://www.caraudioplus.co.uk/iPod_...rs_for_Factory_Radios/Audi_Sony_NW-HD_Adapter

For them to supply and fit then I suppose that sounds about right. But you will probably save a couple of quid getting the parts yourself.

Thinking about it I also saved a little bit of money because they didn't have to take the glovebox out. They have to drill a small hole through to feed the cable but this had already been done on mine.

Was gonna fit my old sony headunit with adaptor but decided to get the adaptor for my concert head unit. Arrived today and took me about 15 mins to fit. I've got the cable coming out from behind the ashtray so I can use the control on my HD5 if I'm looking for a specific album or song. But also it's tucked out of the way when I'm just using the HU controls.

I can't believe you guys are willing to pay £40 to fit this. All you need are the stereo removal tools which you'll only have to buy once (£5) and normal tools. I'll put instructions on here if anyone wants them.

Thanks for the NW hack Rich. Always annoyed me that I couldn't get line out operation when plugged into my car

If you'd seen some of the cack handed attempts at all things car related I've made in the past then you'd probably agree that 40 quid is a small price to pay :) Know your limits, that's my motto!

Lol fair point!

If at first you don't succeed tho
