I'm really annoyed with myself as I vowed I'd never go back from having a German car, but I can't stop thinking about the new Renaultsport Megane 275 Trophy! It'll be an absolute machine and so much fun compared to the S3! Somebody help!!!

Well, the S3 feels positively dull, un involving bland and soulless compared to one of them.

But that's about it. I personally couldn't live with the interior or NVH.

    Great for a hoon though.

Go for it. Get the Renault. Then you'll have the feeling every day that you bought a superior car with more horse power, better interior and better looks...

Oh wait... that's if you buy the Audi.

I recently sold my Mitsubishi Evo X FQ330 SST to buy my S3 and don't regret it for one minute (but don't regret having owned my Evo for the past 3years either). The S3 puts a much bigger grin on my face than my Evo ever did and that was quite a tool!

Don't get me wrong the Megane is a great motor but is aimed at a slightly different market to the S3. I think you need to be sure in your own mind what you are looking for in your next car between the S3 and the Megane - as only then will you make the right choice fir you as I agree with comments above that the Megane is much more a hooning machine than the S3, which is a more civilised hooning machine!

Different ways to crack the nut. RS275 is certainly the 'drivers' car, but the interiors have been woeful in the past, and they depreciate much harder than S3. If I was rich enough to have one as a dedicated track day car I would, but we're not there yet!

I can understand your thinking, I sold my 8P mapped S3 and bought a wee JCW hatch. Sure the Audi was quicker, more luxurious, better built, I liked the 4WD for security and the Scottish cold winters but it was just so damn dull.

The JCW was like a little puppy, always eager to please and always put a smile on your face.

I've ordered a new S3 S-tronic as my driving these days is mostly town with the odd burst and I'm getting older so think i'll appreciate the quality aspect more than I used to. I'm just hoping (driving wise) it's not as dull as the 8P, it certainly wasn't on an extended test drive .. Wait and see though.

I have a copy of EVO somewhere noting that although the motoring press have raved about the Megane, it was something like only 150 were purchased in the UK.

So its a rare car but it does tell you something.

Looks pretty porno I think. The interior is a massive improvement on the old ones. Loving the alcantara everywhere.
I've had several Renaultsports and I've got to admit they're the best drivers cars I've ever owned. They don't hold their money at all, but oh well you only live once!

I think I just get bored too easily when it comes to cars. I'm always open to new cars as I'm not brand loyal really which some people will hate me for saying!
I know I've got a brand new S3 which is a great all rounder, but I guess I just don't appreciate it that much as I don't do many miles. Only done 2300 since last November! It's all about 'smiles per miles' for me and as good as the S3 is, it just doesn't put a huge grin on my face all the time.

Been told we need to buy a bigger house first by the fun police! I'm definitely considering getting 182 clio though for track days.

Best 'smiles per mile' car I ever had was my Miami Blue 205 1.9 GTi

Not only did it look the business, sound great and shift, it handled like no other car I have ever owned. Only my Impreza UK300 came close.

    Perfection!

Owned a modified yellow 200bhp Fiesta RS Turbo too, which was the ultimate head turner, but was as reliable as Jimmy Saville at a kids birthday party!

I had a 205 1.9 too, a G plate red one. That thing really taught me how to drive, I was 19 when I had that which shocked all my mates. I worked hard for it though as I do now! Think a track toy is probably the way to go, you just can't drive fast on the roads really anymore, too much traffic and too many muppets just wanting to get from A-B.

You sound a bit like me, just into a new car (well new to me usually) and already planning the next one ..

I think the problem is (well for me anyway) I get bored easily, it's sometimes not the fact you dislike the car you have, you just get bored of it and want to try something else. I know that at the moment I enjoy driving the girlfriends cars more than mine (it's a 4.8iS X5 E53 :sly:) but I had an X5 myself and sold it after about 3 months. I think I like driving her car for a number of reasons - it's not mine, I don't drive it that often, and I seem to be in a more relaxed, potter around chilled mood at the moment so her car is better for that, and I can't get enough of that V8 burble .. :whistle2:

Have you thought about 2 cars geefunk1978? I used to run an old Mitsubishi Pajero, alongside an RS60 boxster spyder .. want big, comfy, slow, don't care what sort of state it's in - then take the Pajero. Suns out, fancy a hoon - take the Porsche. As you were always changing what car you were in, it always seemed like more of an event ..?

Sounds to me like you need something like an Mk5 Golf GTi for a sensible hatch, and something like a Caterham for all out fun?

Like you I love driving the wife's car, she's got an X5 too, albeit a 3.0D, it's such a relaxing cruising machine! It's great for family life too, we've got a 9 month old and it's such a great all rounder that if we ever go anywhere we tend to just go in the X5. It's good having access to it whenever I want really.

I think I need to just buy a 911 and have done with it! The perfect all round sports car, but how long before I get bored of that?! Probably best just having a nice day to day car, which I guess the S3 is perfect for, and buy a track car to get my thrills! I've been eyeing up Clio 182 Trophy's, think it'd be a good investment and they're great fun!

I have come to the conclusion it doesn't matter what car I own, I'll be eyeing up my next one

I too have always said I want to scratch my 911 itch one day, and have come close on a number of occasions to a 997 S, and was tempted last year to go 993. I still think I'd be looking to change within a year even if I had a 911.

The S3 is a good one car fits all, quick, looks good, nice interior, cheap-ish to run/own, enough space for the family (maybe not + the 2 dogs ) so jack of all trades .. that means there's always going to be cars that are more fun cars to drive though

I think if I was in the mood, the 275 Trophy would be such a laugh, but for the other 80% of the time I'd rather be in the S3 .. The Renault would be a car I'd like to borrow/drive but not to own ..

I WILL own a 911 at some point, might have to wait til the little one is a bit bigger so she can climb in the back though, as opposed to having to get a car seat in and out! A 997 Carrera 4S in grey please.

I think you're probably right about the Megane, it would be amazing fun when the mood takes, but just cruising around it would probably be a bit too raw for day to day stuff. I used to have an R26 Megane, but traded it in for an 8P S3 as I wanted something a bit more grown up, better built and would hold it's value better. That R26 didn't hold it's money at all, but maybe this 275 will as it will be a run out special of this shape.

Wish I didn't get bored easily though!!

I was tempted out of my Audi 1.8T sport back in 2004 by a Honda Civic Type R, in comparison the Honda was manic. Great car, great fun but soon became very irritating for every day use, sparse interior, harsh ride and all revs and no torque, basically it drove me mad in the end. I really missed my Audi so went and bought another, 'bliss'. It sounds like the Renault is an itch your wanting to scratch, be careful you may regret it, try and get a demo for a few days. I think a longer demo with the Honda would of put me off making the rash decision I made. Good luck !

I had a 182 Trophy for track days. It embarrassed most things and it only had a set of R888's and decent brake pads!

I've had enough RenaultSports to last a life time and I always without a doubt end up back in something German within a few months LOL.
