So it's a Saturday afternoon and we are on the motorway going housey shopping etc.

Driving behind an RS4 (should I say BMW!?) doing that "I am in the outside lane doing xmph.. it's MY lane". So anyway, indicate right to show our intent to overtake him.

He pulls over... lets us past and we catch up with some traffic ahead. So Mr RS4 pulls out, drives up our behind and starts flashing and waving his arms around for us to move out of the way ???

So the cars in front pull over and we accelerate (overtaking traffic) up to approx 120/130kph (still overtaking traffic) with an RS4 stuck to our rear bumper. Then a car looks like it is about to pull out in front of us, necessitating us to brake reasonably sharply.

Last seen in rear view mirror.... very white faced RS4 driver in middle lane (yep a middle-land cruiser) getting earful from wifey in the passenger seat looking like he needs change of pants.

    Why oh why !!???

Lane-three hoggers are my absolute pet motorway hate. Take Saturday. Was on the M4 heading to Reading in the afternoon. Doing a steady 90-ish kph, enjoying the relatively light traffic and lovely sunshine.

I come up behind a Mk2 Golf Cabriolet, roof down, Beegees playing, with two spotty mongf***ers in white baseball caps (matching, how sweet) mooching along at a steady 75 mph. So, I sit there for a while, undertaking being anathema to my non-BMW-driving soul, waiting for them to notice me. Notice? Those two wouldn't know road observation if it sat on their face and wiggled. So, I give them the right indicator. Nothing. Not a single, solitary thing. OK. Time to flash. A coupe of quick blasts of my high-beams, and no response, except an empty pack of Marlboro reds chucked out by the protohominid driver.

Striving to resist the red mist (actually an inclination to drive up alongside them and chainwhip seven shades of whimpering s**t out of them whil eleaning out of my window), I decided to undertake. So, I checked behind me, signalled, pulled out and gave it some gas.

I had *just* got past them when the Golf didn't indicate and suddenly lurched across all 3 lanes up the sliproad to (where else?) Slough. It's a shame, really. My vituperative tongue fails me. I really can wish nothing on those two worse than being the f***heads they so obviously are.

But it proves my theories about people who drive in hats... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

    Mk1, Mk2, whatever... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The guys driving were still (how can I put this delicately?) people whose primary sexual activity I suspect to be a solitary one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Tis always a joy to use the brute force of the S3 to destroy a rep in his 318i in the o/s lane /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/fuck_you.gif

Has anyone noticed the 'my car must be quicker' thing?

I.e. you come up behind someone then there is a puff of smoke and they try and shoot off? Its funny only seem to notice the affect when I'm driving the punto /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mildly entertaining to say the least.

This is one of the reasons I realy love driving estates, the great unwashed assume it is going to be a sluggish car driven by a pipe smoker. Only the once though, humiliation has that effect on the memory! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dunno about the issues thing, though. I thought everyone hated the vacuous, git-witted, selfish, moronic cretins who block our progress out of jealousy, ignorance or poor observation. But maybe it is just me...

whats the problem with that Drystone; overtake 5 of the 7, then at the next opportunity take the last 2 and you are on your merry way /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got overtaken by a Vectra this morning going right in the left hand lane (road marking clearly state this is wrong), forcing me to slow and move in behind. Wasn't a happy bunny /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

If your wondering WTF? I was in the Corsa and didn't get sharp (understatement) away from the roundabout otherwise I could probably have held him off.

Golf Bygone said:Don't bother. It's a dog eat dog world out there. There are no rules now. You get ahead as best you can; if it means a couple of seconds less on the road or just one carspace further up in the traffic jam, it will have been worth it.

I keep a cricket bat in the boot in case I have problems with other drivers and remember, in jammed-up Britain, you can run, but if you do you'll have to leave your car behind!

A cricket bat? How quaint... I have an old final-drive chain off Dad's Norton in the glovebox, and a silenced Browning 9 in the drawer under my seat. It is well to be prepared for all eventualities... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

Seriously though... The whole "gotta get ahead, gotta gain/maintain my place in the queue" mentality scares me somewhat - I seriously believe that I've seen at least one muffnut with no sense of proportion who's been happy to risk causing injury and damage just to "keep his place in the line". Madness. In heavy traffic I tend to play some soothing music (or Terry Wogan /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) and potter along harmlessly - if Mr W@nkstain wants to get to the trafic lights 3 feet ahead of me, he's welcome to it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile_smoking.gif

A maglite? Well I guess that could bring light to some unshining areas.

But somehow I imagined you with a Lacrosse stick?
