So to put you in the picture I've been working crazy hours for the last few months and Saturday was the only day I had off. I decided to do nothing for the day just so I could relax the car was covered in brick dust and I couldn't even be bothered to wash the car off. Sunday morning I was back at work again but I am away for the week so didn't want the car to be left with brick dust on for a week so on my way to work there's a hand car wash at the bottom of the road so I decided to pull in there and just get them to jet the dirt off not wash the car Because I NEVER EVER have taken the car to and don't trust these car wash places but I thought it would be ok because they were just jetting the car. The guy was bamused and couldn't understand I didn't want the car washing but he eventually jetted the car. He then said he couldn't get the flys off and I said I want fussed just wanted it rinsing.

The guy insisted I pay the 2.50 for the wash which I did then drove to work because I was now late but wAs happy because the brick dust was washed off.

Got to work thought id check the car to see how clean it was only to find the stupid F***wit had blasted the car too hard and the clear lacker had bubbled off the bonet and now the paintworks damaged and the car looks a mess

I'm so annoyed and gutted the one time I took the car to a car wash it gets recked and I have now got to shell out lots of money to get it fixed:-(

I just thought I would have a rest on sat because I was phisicaly shattered and it would be better for me in hind sight if I had of made the effort I wouldn't be in this place.

    So annoyed and gutted

you must have had a problem to start with the paint should hold up to a jetting
if the preasure was to high it would be wrecking every car he uses it on

I know the that the paint work shouldn't be damaged but the bonet was perfect before he jetted it I think he must have held the the jet too close to the bonet and for to long all the lacker has bubbled up.

Just sods law but I am gutted carnt really do much now :-(

What do you guys think do you think ? Is it something I should speak to Audi about ? Saying there's a fault in the paintwork would Audi accept that the was a fault with the paintwork and sort it out ? Is there a warranty on paintwork or will they just turn around and say its wear and tear and kits not there problem ??

Audi would not warrant that, it's standard wear and tear in the form of stone chips! And the jetwash they was using must have been mega powerful to open up the laquer like that!

I do and did maintain the stone chips I have chips away sort them out regually and also I have the paint touch up pots from Audi with the clear lacker to put on top on the top. To keep the paintwork in good condition I had hand cleaned the car the 5 days before so the car was cleanish just had a layer of brick dust on Due to me visiting my mum for the week, she has just brought a new house on an estate that's still being build hense all the brick dust

I kinda guessed that Audi wouldn't warrant that and I'm just going to have to suck it up and put it down to experience

I do believe though that the guy had put the jetter too close for too long on the car and not even sure but i think that the water being jetted was very hot there was steam coming from the jetter. The lacker has lifted up and bubbled and Is hard again so it looks like its been melted and lifted rather than just chipped off

Still I suppose that's life learn by your mistakes

Never ever ever trust drive in car washes even if they are just rinsing you car off.

It sounds like you went to the "Rape N Scrapers" , I'm a master valeter and I've have made a small fortune of the backs of there ill work in the past, i used to be mopping cars every other day because of the ones down the road from where i used to work, the amount of scratchies they was doing a day was unreal, but what made me giggle was the fact that people with £50k cars was too tight to get it valeted by us for £20 for an Auto Glym clean up,

Jesus I cannot believe your bonnet.

My 07 plate A3 is chipped to buggary and I jet wash it regularly. And when I say chipped I mean chipped. The bonnet and bumper are like running your hand over sandpaper. Has any lacquer ( not lacker ) ever come off. Erm no. Not a jot. And before you say my wash is not powerful enough it will go through ****e off my drive way like butter

Seems to be a problem with the paint to me. It no doubt Audi will squirm like a cornered rapist !

Chuffin hell, this happened to me yesterday! Picking up my Audi tomorrow and had advertised my Focus ST (2007) on Pistonheads and had a phone call yesterday to say the guy wanted to view it that evening. Wanting it to look its best (it was only slightly dusty) I nipped round the corner to the hand car wash that uses a jet. Whilst their I noticed the pressure washer seemed a lot more intense than the one we have at work for the work vehicles. Car looked ok, until I noticed the front bumper. Loads of laquer had come off, and I mean about 6" by 6" at the widest points! Never taking a car their again no matter how pushed for time I am. Luckily for me the guy bought the ST and the Audi's ready tomorrow. How much would a respray on the bonnet be?

I took my car to Chips away and they quoted £360 to respray the bonet remove a dent on the bonnet from some kind person sitting on it and respraying the front bumper due to lots of stone chips so I recommend you try chips away. I also took it for a quote at a Audi body shop and they quoted £1200 for the same work

I'm going to get it resprayed and then get the car detailed all for 700 quid

I feel your pain wish I hadn't of been so busy and washed the car myself

has happened to my mrs' ST aswell, to be honest i dont think this should happen to any car, shows poor paint quality by ford to me, i mean how flimsy are those bumpers!
luckily for my mrs, or unlucky, depends how you look at it, she had a bump today in her car, and the other driver is paying for repairs at a cost of £2500 for 2 new bumpers sprayed, and the bonnet re painted.
