Does anybody know where I can get a smoke tester from???
I've a few boost leaks but can't find anything obvious :)
Or does anybody have one I could use ?
Don't have enough time to fanny around with a garage so thought I'd try and buy one but don't even really know what I'm looking for
All help would be appreciated thanx lads

I think they are a Fair bit of money mate, like 600 plus. Think badger 5 got one fairly recently. Most tuning/development garages will have one, cost me £25 to get mine tested, which just revealed Pcv leaks.

I bought a tester kit off German eBay, which was just the adapters for pressure gauge and tyre valve which also does the trick, but no smoke.

Have you got access to a compressor? It would be easier to just do a pressure test then a smoke test.

Can vouch for them being expensive... Bill 'invested' in one... they are not a particularly cheap DIY option to buy for yourself...

    They are brilliant though... :D

It's pretty basic. you need a bung with attachment to put the compressor on. This goes in one end of the boost system, silicone hose after charge pipe. Then you need a bung for the other end, hose that goes onto the TB. Put 30 odd psi through it and listen for air p!ssing out.

I have a kit that will be up for sale very shortly, as soon as I get back int he country. It will let you pressurise and check for leaks, but no smoke. PM me if you're interested!

This is what iv got, works great if you have got a silicone tip. Although it does pass through the turbo seals.

Smoke pressure kit is between £7-800 last time I checked & tbh its far better than air based version as such, as you can see immediately where it is leaking, wish I had 1 tbh as I made one up, works fine but for small leaks you could never really find the leak that easily.

Brilliant results mate. I'm only holding 16psi at the moment and I'm sure I have some leaks somewhere.

Could you hear the air rushing out of the leaks? I used to get 21psi but the track day at bedford last month seems to have loosened the hoses somewhere.

All FMIC hoses was it? I need to change over the clips I'm using as I'm not a fan of the T-clamp things I'm currently using.

Ahh ok mate. I've got my work cut out then! I've got a FMIC, catch can, and every othe boost hose has been replaced!

I'll get the bumper off one night this week and have a real good look. Cheers.

Mine is revo stage 2 software, mapped at Badger 5. Bill mapped mine to 21psi as my old FMIC wasn't cooling the charge air too much and my fuel pump was failing. I'm visiting him in January for a health check and map tweaking now I have a new fuel pump and bigger FMIC so shoul get more boost put in the map.

I'll be honest, I got it foc as I know the master tech at my dealer guys due to business etc :)

But all comes down to hourly charges with audi, a leak test would be 30 mins to 1 hour max, if that as a leak should be very apparent in 5 minutes flat.

5 mins away from city centre Nilz

The car is a 1.9tdi SE 55plate BKC 120,000 on the clock

I feel as tho there's a lack of power I say that because my mate has the exact same car but in sport and his car feels much more poky (his car has 95,000 on the clock don't know if that is the reason why) and I can sometimes hear wind noise, like wind escaping from somewhere but not sure if that's just my ears lol

My first diesel so don't know if I'm just being a noob sorry :)
