smart guard paint/interior protection

Hello, just signed up to this site(which I've been meaning to do for ages now) anyway, can anyone help? I'm due to pick up my new a4 in a week or so but the audi garage has now asked if I want to have SMARTGUARD added?
I can't decide if I should, can anyone help? And they have said its another £449!

Hi, and welcome to the forum. If this is what I think it is - an extra insurance policy covering small dents and scratches - then I was offered the same thing by my dealer when ordering the S4. Go onto google and shop around. You'll find similar cover for a lot less money. Of course, you'll still have to decide whether to buy it, but at least you'll be mulling over something less expensive.

Hi, many thx for the info. however it's not that, this is the actual email I was sent from the dealer.......
"Do you want SMARTGUARD paint protection applied to your vehicle before you collect it, this would cost £449 but helps maintain the paint and the interior, just a thought especially on such a nice car in white"

Ah, yes it's a different thing, but actually the same answer. Do a google search for a professional detailer in your local area offering a new car protection detail. Here's the one I'm going for on mine. Obviously, it might not be local to you, but it'll give you an idea of what you're looking for. Way superior to dealer-applied stuff.

This question comes up quite a lot as it's is a real money spinner for the dealers so they push it. As @jdp1962 says you'll get better value for money from a detailer who will take the time to properly prepare and protect the car.

Have a search for "lifeshine" or "supaguard" and you'll turn up plenty of threads. Here one such example:

Thanks for the help, I've been pricing up other car polish specialists in my area (Somerset). Around £250 to do the full job for me. I Will make a decision on Monday when I pay the balance. Cheers again.

Hello, just in case anyone reads this. I've got my new car now with SMARTGUARD from audi. It looks good so far, I paid £339 and it comes with a warranty. It also comes with repair pack. I'm happy so far but time will tell. Thanks for reading.

Smart guard from he dealer is a con Audi wanted 500 for my 08 s3 found it private for 200ish Carl at nice touch is a top guy and does Stella work

Hard to tell unless u buy an identical car and don't have it done ,better to be safe than sorry though,did they give u the special stuff to wash it With?

Yes I had a bag with a few repair products in as well. You are right though, I think better to be safe than sorry lol
