slack gear stick

Gents,

Not sure if this has been asked before - google doesn't seem to give me an exact answer.

When I put the car into any gear I can move it side to side and it doesn't feel tight anymore, it doesn't affect driving however I find it very annoying.

Can anyone help me with this one please?

Starting off mentioning what sort of vehicle it is and is this a manual or automatic. I assume manual but one has to ask anyway..

it's a audi a4 b7 avant 1.9 tdi manual 115 bhp

Usually its the linkage that is worn. Or there is wear in the ball. Unless it sorta jolts when u come off and on throttle then its mounts.
