Is it me, or is Shell planning a take over of petrol stations in the UK? I know at least 3 local petrol stations which I drive past that have been changed to Shell in the last month! The only thing is, whilst the name has changed, they are still charging the same price as the previous petrol brand, so is of no benefit to me! One is just over a mile away from my local Shell which I pay 129.9p/l, but charging 132.9 for the same stuff! :uhm:

They have taken over one petrol station close to mine - but they are also refurbishing a load of their current sites around Liverpool.

Not many shell stations down here.
    Mainly Esso, Texaco and Tescos.

It might be a area thing.

I havent seen any new ones??

I do know now though that all their cash machines are now free to use and they are also trialling a pump attendant service, which they are hoping to roll out on a full time basis.

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with Shell taking over some stations. I'll always try to find a Shell station wherever I am in the UK as I need Vpower 98 octane and the A4 runs sweet as a nut on it. Some of the supermarket stuff is ****e but the big boys are pricing out the smaller stations so good on Shell for expanding.

I don't like that idea. The 2 Shell's near me have a tendancy not to reset to 0 when the pump is turned on.

As a side note, and no racism or prejudice intended, but I have never seen a shell petrol station that is not run completely by Asians. Do they have a deal going on with the UK border agency or something or do Asians love petrol stations ?

When I first read your post I didn't like it, but then I thought about it and it dawned on me that pretty much every Shell I've been to across London has only Sri Lankan workers in it.

I would say this is true of Birmingham. There's a big asian community in these parts, and non of the locals want the graveyard shift, so it's left with the asians taking up all the jobs.

Mainly BP garages popping up in my part of the world.

Sri Lankans have a thing for gas stations. Convenience stores, Chicken shops and gas stations. They borrow enough to buy the franchise, and see it as a great long term investment. It is because many others in their communities have done it before them, and that's what they aspire to.

The trouble is the fuel companys have sold nearly all of there stations off to third partys due to cost to maintain but when there not owned by the fuel joint it's all quids in for the fuel company's... The third parts who own these garages have a long list as long as your arm for people to work and there not a great deal of British names..
