BBS Speedlines

I was lucky enough to come across a set of 5 genuine Audi/BBS Speedline alloys for £300 with tyres. Unfortunately, they were in a poor state when purchased and required refurbishment.

I did most of the manual labour myself after having them totally stripped back to bare metal via acid dipping which removed any corrosion on the wheels (very common dissimilar metal corrosion). I manually rubbed them down to bare metal ready for painting and gave them to a bodyshop to prep and paint for me.

Stage 1 (Purchase condition)

@ShaunS3 You have come a long way with the car Shaun. I remember your first day on the forum when you were starting out with your modding and looking for parts. The cars looking fantastic. :) x

Next up..... Suspension :)

I have been longing to sort the suspension out since purchasing my BBS Speedlines and although the car drove fine, the shocks/springs had seen better days and the shockers were certainly beyond serviceable.....

So, I opted to go for a little more than just budget coilovers as i wanted adjustable ride height and a little more quality seen as I will be keeping the car for a fair while yet, might aswell do it properly!

KW V1 Coilovers were delivered, courtesy of Mark Brodie (aka Brotek)

These were fitted with replacement LCR top mounts and brand new nuts/bolts supplied by Wakefield Audi.

Due to my very good friend being camera shy, i have had to blank his face out from the picture as he threatened me with physical violence and possibly fatal consequences if i revealed his identity online lol.

Thanks for your kind words once again Sandra.

I hope my build thread pics show the love and appreciation that I put into my car and maybe encourage/inspire others with their own cars. Needless to say, the work I have been doing behind the scenes has not been easy and I can safely say i never want to refurb a BBS Speedline wheel ever again (too many spokes) - It's hard enough keeping them clean lol.

Further to the above mods with pics, in and between modding i have also been doing some maintenance/overhaul work which involved:

Replacement fuel pump (New - OEM unit)
New N75 Valve
Clean throttle body and replace with new gasket
Ultrasonic clean fuel injectors (pics to follow)
New FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator)

Replaced rear calipers and carriers with new limited anniversary edition LCR setup (painted red from factory). This was due to the OSR caliper failing (seizing on).

I also have a couple of mods to fit:

TFSI coils w/new OEM wiring harness

LCR Brembo front brake setup:
(These are going to be stripped and rebuilt - Then repainted to original Brembo red before fitting)

More pics will follow as progress is made.

Thanks for reading :)

Shaun.

wow stunning car, I bet it feels like brand new. I wish I had the funds and time to get it all done in one go, just had to replace my rear calipers as they had both siezed. How much were the leon rear calipers if you don't mind me asking?

LCR calipers were £50 each new. Genuine TRW (OEM Suppliers).

I had to source 4WD rear carriers though as the LCR ones don't fit....managed to find a pair of red powdercoated carriers on Facebook for £30 delivered, bargain and saved me a job of having mine done, minimizing downtime.

Ooh.....also managed to get my hands on a genuine AMSS (aka Andy Mac) subwoofer, thanks to @DaveB

wow I wish I knew this before hand, new s3 rear calipers, discs and pads including labor came to little over £350 for me, any benefits over standard s3 items?

No difference other than they are painted red. The calipers are exactly the same, only difference is that the carriers wont fit from LCR due to 4wd.

Found the pics for my injector and throttle body cleaning:

I also fitted a new FPR (fuel pressure regulator) and this process honestly made a big difference in the performance of the engine. It became so much more responsive and smoother to drive. Definately would recommend.

That's a great thread! Resembles much of the work I have completed on mine (except the FMIC, so far...) but mine's taken me the best part of 5 years to get done...

Love the look of the speedlines; I wasn't sure how they would go with the 8L body style, but they look really good.

Cheers dude.

What's to come is even more exciting...watch this space :)

Well.....this weekend will see the S3 come off road once again.

This time its for major mechanical work, more commonly known as 'BIG BUILD' across the forums. This work will involve a top secret custom setup which will be going against the grain in terms of turbo and exhaust setup.

Pics will follow on progress :)

Shaun.

Looking forward to hearing more.

Cheers Gops, always nice to hear as the car has been about on ASN for some time with both myself and the previous owner, Tim @1animal1

My trackslag pipe is coming off as it is surplus to requirement with my new turbo...

Oh cool! Well if you're wanting to sell it, PM me

What makes you say that?
Stupid crazy fitment, jap stuff is always like that lol.
Are you sure its a worthwhile upgrade, that inducer looks absolutely tiny

EDIT: haha, i was right, evo turbo
Its similar in size to a 2867 funnily enough. but not billet. but its twin scroll.
Either way its pretty cool idea, i look forward to it

You guessed right....

Twin scroll evo derived turbo....small ish inducer but massive hot side/wastegate.....single flapper.

This turbo should see a good spool up and produce more power easily and was massively cheaper than a hybrid K04. Brand new :)

It will manage boost/flow more efficiently which is the magic about twin scroll.

Car has now officially been dropped off...progress pics to follow of custom exhaust work :)
