Service indicator

Just bought a 96 S6 and need to know how to reset the service indicator. I have vagcom but it doesn't communicate with the instrument cluster (seems to be a known problem as mentioned by Ross Tec) so does any one know how to do it.
I have a Key-Usb cable and I'm running vagcom 704.1. I'm running it on an old dell latitude laptop with an Intel pentium III 498Mhz (don't laugh I got it for free from a mate just to run vagcom) and windows xp sp1

Did you try the SRI Reset function in Applications as explained in the manual here?

Windows XP on a 500 MHz CPU with a USB interface is a marginal combination at best. The first thing I'd do is borrow a newer/faster PC from someone to see if that helps.
