I had 3 random cables in the left hand cubby hole in my boot.
One of them went through the rear vent and in to the bumper area.

So I removed the bumper to find out what that cable was and it turned out to be the aerial for the tracker.
I traced it back to the other 2 cables, which then went on to the tracker.

Since the boot was ripped apart I thought it was a good time to remove the tracker since I'm not going to use it.

    Bumper off with the aerial.

    Tracker removed.

    One tracker.

    One tracker apart.

In the process of fitting the bumper back I broke the soft close function of the boot and found out that the right bumper bracket is broken. It feels like (I can't see it) that someone sheared all the teeth of the gear.

In an attempt to get fit and save money I've taken to cycling to work. This means that the car is parked up for a week or two not being driven.
Having read stories about the A8 and their thirst for power, I thought it would be best to find a way to keep battery tip top. Not having access to a mains power, solar power was the next option and I got linked to a AA solar charger that charges the car via the ODB port.

I thought I would give it ago.

Be interested to see how you get on with this Scott, mine can be sat for 2 weeks at a time and may need one.

Lovely car, but of a change from Audrey. Interested to see where you take it and hope to see it at a show at some point this year.

    Nope.
We talked about Piano black and I agreed but for after some time thinking about it I decided to go for basic gloss black cause I was paranoid I would not like the Piano black and had to strip it all down again.
So I went for a safety black.

    Re the boot remote.
let me know when you do it if it is that easy. I'm gonna do it in a couple of months time but i'm waiting for my Mrs to deliver our baby in the next couple of weeks so can't afford to mess it up and have the car off the road in bits if she comes early.
The guy who has done that mod is also working on the mod to open the boot with a kick sensor under the bumper and also voice activation. He's quite clever.

Found out I had a Auxiliary heater on saturday. A quick flip through the manual and I noticed this.

Asked a mate about it and he sent me a link (I lost it now) to a guy who added a Aux heater to his A8 and what coding he used to activate the menu screen in MMI.
You basically add 2 to the HVAC coding.

And I ended up with this.

I just need to wait 4-6 months for some cold weather before I can test it fully but a little side test and it appears to work.

Now I'm on the hunt for one of these.

Not done much with the motor since the AUX coding.
    Its been sat doing nothing.

I do have some updates on the bits I have done before.

1st off, Warren. You wanted to know about the solar charger. I think its poo. I took the almost new battery out of the A4 before it scrapped and connect the charger to it.
The battery was on 11.48v or something. I went out every couple of hours over a weekend to check on its progress.
The battery and charger was in the garage near the window. Its a south facing garage and the window gets a plenty of sunshine during the day.
Over the weekend its averaged about 1 volt every hour but the battery will not go above 12.01v. It tends to hover around 11.59-12.01.
I've had the charger plugged in for the last 2 weeks, I'll check it out again tonight when I get home but I doubt its gone above 12.01.

I finaly got and fitted the missing centre cap. Its a bit worse for wear but it will do.

Not fitted the new DRL bulbs yet. I'm looking for the proper plugs and sockets so I can make it plug and plug. Don't want to cut in to the head light wiring if I can help it.
Same goes for the boot open/close switch. Want the proper plugs and sockets.

I've also been looking in to wiring in my Dash cam again.
I found a location that I'm happy with and found a power source. just need to get the plug sorted out and a 12v down to 5v adaptor. I'm thinking of using a old phone charger.

    Installed the Dash cam yesterday.

I used this little port off the heads up controls.

Used the proper Audi Plug and cables, then connected them to a random mobile phone charging cable I had which fitted the Camera.

Put it all back together and it ended up like this.

    All in and working.

Have you had any problems with your trunk motor yet? Mines a little temperamental so have my eye out for a new trunk motor the 'H' model that supercedes the 'G' model.

Its a common issue with it popping up.

You can 'repare' the motor or replace it with a updated motor like you listed.

Mine works most of the time at the moment, so I'll leave it till it hardly ever works and then get another one.

Make sure your hinges are fully lubed up. That did help with mine.

Saturday was my first time using the towbar bike rack and its amazing.
So easy to use and set up.
When the bike is off the rack it fits in the boot for secure storing. There is no worry about hitting car park roofs (again). The rack also sits high so you it wont bottom out when going up and down steep slopes.

Tilt mode so I can get in to the boot.

All a8's have air suspension and it can be adjusted via MMI or via vcds.

It does make life easier for lowering.
You can also buy lowering links that will lower it even further.
I think you can get something daft like 100mm lower out of it. I don't want to go that low though.
I'd never be able to get any where.

The bad thing with air suspension is the cost of the shocks and all related air items if they go wrong.
My pump is a getting a bit tired so my weekend job is to remove the pump and replace the piston ring.
You can buy repair kits from bagpippingandy for £25.

I need new tyres for the front but I'm hoping I can find some 20"s that I like, in need of a refurb but with good tyres for the same price as two front tyres.
Its a tall order I think.

Its a genuine boot protector from Audi.
Its a solid sheet of foam.
    Easily movable and flexible.

I don't normally access the spare but over the last week or two I have accessed that area even more for my tow bar and its been fine.

I bought a rebuild kit for the suspension pump last week and spent friday afternoon removing the pump and rebuilding the compressor.

    I only took two pictures.

This one of the space where it once was.

And this one of the damage done to the cylinder.

I bought the kit off bagpippingandy and emailed him the above picture.
He said the new kit should last about 6 months with that sort of damage but he can sort me out with a new/recon pump if I send him mine.
Hopefully it will last till after christmas then I'll look into replacing the pump.

Can I ask how much as this may be just what I need.
I have a subwoofer that i built into the spare wheel. I had a puncture the other day and went to fit the spare and it doesnt fit over the caliper so not the right wheel. Bought a full size spare and remade the sub box but because it bigger the baffle comes up higher so I can't shut the boot floor compartment properly. I'm looking to get a boot protector and cut a hole for the woofer and grill to come through (don't want to cut the original boot carpet one). I was going to get the rubber one and put plastic sheet on the back to sturdy it up a bit. I maybe able to do the same on your one but depends on price as I know Audi goes to town on prices

About £30-£40 from Audi I think.
    Possibly cheaper.

Get a bit of MDF or plywood the same thickness as the standard floor, carpet that and cut that up to fit.
Would be a better finish and more usable than the foam sheet over the top.
