Hi guys, just wondering if this Sat Nav is worth buying for my A3 as I have the concert radio system and want to upgrade. Do either of these items have all the required parts for installation or do I have to get a hold of additional parts?

Finally, I would also want to know if there is anything that will not allow these systems to work in Australia.

    Ebay Sat Nav 2

    Thanks in advance everyone.

kash - I think you'd need to get the centre console changed?

I have the concert too. We have a gap under the stereo but I believe when you install the sat nav this gap disappears so that the a/c and everything else can be incorporated. I don't know if you'd need to buy new housing or whatever but why don't you just send a message to the guys selling it on ebay and ask them? It will be in their best interests to answer you...

You'll need a double Din cage to house the sat nav unit. And you'll need a new climate control panel, or cut the existing one to fit. Also the ones pictured are for A6 and look slightly different to ones found in A3 (8P).

Sure others on here will know more about this.

    Hi Kash,

I'd make sure the unit was a 8P0035192. There may be an issue with the firmware recoginizing the Australian DVD. I'm in Sydney and also thinking about instaling a navi plus. Do you know that you need to install a CD player in the glove box if you want to listen to standard audio CDs. But because there are two media card slots for playing Mp3 so I wasn't going to bother with the CD staker. Also if you want TV etc thats an extra add on.

Let me know how you go.

    Hey Phydaux,

Just wanted to know if you have been given a quote by any of Sydney dealers in regards to retro-fitting the Sat-Nav.

I was thinking of asking how much they would charge for the labour, if I source the unit myself. If I were to the purchase the unit itself through Audi Australia it would be well over $5000.

    Hey fellow Aussies

What'd you pay for your A3's back home out of interest?

I live in London now and the price of german cars relative to my salary was just too attractive to say no too but the prices back home looked extortionate. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

My car is around £25K list price here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I agree, the amount of tax the Australian government put on their cars is incredible, but not as crazy as some other countries out there.

Anyway to answer your question, I paid close to $50K Australian for my 2.0 FSI Ambition with a few added options. Nice car to drive though so I don't mind. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

SO I guess a 2.0T FSI would be closer to $60K?

It retails here $50,050 for a manual.

The 3.2 quattro retails here at $74,900, so they are not exactly cheap cars. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

hi ya yeah i have recently brought a sat nav unit from ebay. Luckily i brought it from a ebayer who lived close to me so i was able 2 meet him and he installed it for me. i was looking into it for months and there are many pros & cons. (Unless it comes all included!)

    i'll list a few -
cons - u must have the correct adapters to connect from the symphony to the sat nav which i brought from the fellow but if i didnt it nearly impossible to get from your 'normal' car ice specialist as it is still a new product. thou there is a shop on the internet(german one) which sells them for around 49 euros. you then need to buy the GPS antenna WITH A FRKRA adapter otherwise it will not fit in its port 27 euros. you then need the Antenna adapter with FAKRA conection for the radio as the normal radio connection will not fit in the rns e 19euros. you then need the navigation CD - I didnt realise how expensive the cd was lol - £200 -£300 from audi!!!!! thou you can get one from ebay for around £50 - £150 depending how lucky you are.
like i said i was lucky because i originally just paid for the unit and thought i could just plug it in and play!!! thou the fellow had all the right connetors and i managed to get the lot off him for around £720 which i still think was a good price as as we know the list price from audi is £2200!!! i very happy with the unit now bit of a gadget for me as i dont need to travel to areas i dont know but u never know and comes in handy for other things and it looks good in the dash with all them colours lol!!! i did find thou you can not get the rear speakers to work either which i only found out when my mates were in the back and said they couldnt hear very much! i was a little /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif off with that but as we know the sound in the a3 even without bose is very good so i can go with out for now thou i have tried to find the correct rear speakers from ice dealers but the pins are so new they have not got any for now!!! thou there are sperate bose connectors on the rns e but i aint got bose so i carnt say?like i said im very happy with it, the sounds really clear (even without rear speakers) im even impressed the the information you get from the DIS (another sort of nav infront of u lol) i brought another 1 from a ebayer recently but it got damaged in the post so sending it back today i like to think i know a little bit about it now (after much grief) so any more questions just let me know!!!

also make sure u buy the a3 RNS E sat nav with the rounded edges!!! not the A4, A6 etc with the 'cornered edges' as it will not fit in the a3 dash unless u modify it but do u really wanna do that to your dash or sat nav??

    Kasho,

I haven't had a quote yet. I did email the guy who does Audi centre's phone instalations but he said they wouldn't do it. I'll keep searching.

    Hi djoblong,

I paid $62,000 on road for my 2.0T with leather and open sky. It was more than I wanted to spend but I still think it's the best car for the money here in Australia. The Golf GTI is $7,000 cheaper but the A3 is mich nicer. None of the other cars in this price range are made in Germany. When I drove the C class Merc I thought I was in a ford. And my wifes Renault Clio had more room than the 1 series BMW!
Audi's are cheaper in the States but £25,000 is $58,500Aus so I guess they are a similar price.

    Thanks Phydaux.

They are only a similar price because you are using the exchange rate and if you assume salaries are the same. E.g. if you earn $60K a year in Australia then you earn £25K a year in England. I actually found my salary in £ is similar to what I was earning in $ so therefore the A3 is WAY cheaper relatively speaking.

I just don't think I could justify a car that expensive at home unless I was pulling down a shedload of cash!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
