Yesterday was not my day at all! After falling of a very small wall during the (entirely my own fault) I ended up one car from the front of a 5 car rear end prang on my way home.

Spoke to my insurance company and everything is being taken car of, fingers crossed nothing is damaged underneath and that they can repair/replace the cosmetics. I havent risked opening the boot yet just in case i cant get it to shut again afterwards.

What do you guys think? Will the insurance company repair this or write it off as an uneconomical repair?

Sorry to hear mate, Hope the car is repairable! If it isn’t repairable I would keep it anyway and try to do the repairs myself and get the parts from scrappy as long as the chassis is fine though.

Dam that sucks but there might be a flip side to this by upgrading to S4 front and rear bumpers or worst case A4 facelift bumpers and boot.:eyebrows:

They will probably write that off tbh.

They're gonna look at it as being at least £500 quids worth of parts (new tailgate and bumper from audi) plus quite a lot of labour to paint and fix them.

If that happens what i'd try and do is buy the car back, and use the payout to fix it up and as folk have said upgrade with new bumpers etc.

I would be checking the boot floor though, as if its bent its not an easy fix.

Climb in from the front and lift the carpet if you dont want to open the tailgate.

cheers guys, not my lucky year with cars so far, my old 306 got written off in the snow and ice earlier this year which is how i managed to get myself the avant (which ive been after for ages).

If the worst happens and the insurance company do write the car off and i manage to buy the car back how much would I be looking at do you think for both s4 bumpers, a tailgate and a facelift headlight conversion if i did it myself?

I'd imagine a tailgate could be had from a scrappy for £50-100quid. I paid £80ish for my facelift headlights and the wiring.

S4 bumpers i'd expect to pay anything from 150 to 400quid for the set, you might get lucky and find a set at the cheap end of that scale if folk dont really know what they've got, i wouldnt expect them to be much more than £250ish new each so £400 is probably top end figure for used ones.

Then you'd need to paint the parts, and you may need a screen wash bottle and pumps from an S4 if you want the washers on the front bumper to work.

Well, I popped to the insurance approved garage this morning, the guy who looked at the car said that it will be borderline between getting it repaired or written off (obviously they want to repair it so that they get some money out of it, but its down to the insurance company i guess).

One thing he did say, when I mentioned buying it back if it gets written off, is that he hasnt known of anyone who has been allowed to buy their car back from the company im currently insured with (Cornhill Direct). If this is the case I do hope they can repair the car otherwise im out hunting for another one....at least i have a better idea of what to look for this time though :) fingers crossed.

Not your fault mate and you can tell the insurance company to poke it and demand the car be repaired. I've done this twice now.

My mums old 50k mile XR2i was shubted and they wanted to write it off but we said "not on your life". the car was repaired. And on my brothers Fiesta RS Turbo they told him it was a write off and sent a cheque for £1200. After a fair few phone calls and a threat of us going to the insurance ombudsman the car was repaired at a garage of our choosing and the insurance company gave us £2500 towards what we wanted. Car is now not on the register as a being a write off and it's nice and tidy as the work was done by a specialist to our standards.

Saddly I've seen some truely shocking insurance repairs

Well, after some chasing round today I've finally found out that the garage have been given initial approval to fix the damage to my car, which is nice as it will sort out a few scratches that were there when I got the car and rehang the bumper properly :)

All booked to go in on the 29th for about a week.

I had to try and convince my insurance company to repair my car after some 15 year old in a 4x4 decided he would reverse into my front wing and cause some nasty damage, I gotta say was gutted when it happened and was almost begging them to get the car back on the road. The repair work was fairly good altho the front bumper wasnt best prepped for respray but I could live with that just as long as I got my baby back :).
Nice to see you got your insurance to repair it man and hope its a good repair too.
Also it actually proved to work out for the good at the time, I got a VW Jetta 2.0tdi and was mightily impressed with the performance and ride, and one big massive plus compared to the ol A4 is the amount of space and leg room the car offers, I moved alot of stuff out of my house during the lease period and gotta say the car helped a whole deal and now Im living in such a better estate to what I used too :)

The car has gone in now and should be ready in 5 - 7 days apparently, in the meantime ive got a very nice 08 reg Golf GT TDI Sport to drive round it, problem is that it feels like it pulls so much better than my car (and its more economical) I'm not sure I will want to give it back when mine is ready to be collected.
