So my loan car has turned out to be a Q3 S-Line Quattro 2.0l diesel with enough kit to bump the price up to just below £37k, nice one Eastbourne Audi. It has the Bose system but so far I am not impressed and to my ears it doesn't sound much better that the standard fit Sony system in my Ford. I've got it now until my saloon arrives, about mid January, as my car is still 'in production' awaiting components. After Christmas I've a nice run up to Suffolk, so if you spot a bright red Q3 on the A12 you know it'll be me.

How come you have a loan car? Is that because there's a delay with your car?

Yes not expected until about mid january. Very impressed with the service I have had from eastbourne audi in giving me this loan car and he was very apologetic about the delay...

Bose are like B&O TV's overpriced cheap junk in a pretty box with a laughable price tag

Says who? Millions of ears can't be wrong !! B & O is brilliant and only £500 minus discount more than ASS.

Few years ago whilst buying a Pioneer Kuro plasma, I looked at a LCD TV from B&O, not to buy but I was staggered at the price of £3500. How could they justify the price I thought when other makes were about £600-800. The B&O was a rebadged Samsung made panel. Sure there is more to a tv than the panel but still near £3K better...no way and the LCD cost more than my Kuro which was the best tv ever made

Don't B&O sell products generally based on their sound properties? They also look pretty good too. Look at the £6.5k ? option in A 7 and 8! Wow! Whatever I have had B&O and Bose for years and generally consider them to be great value over standard spec. Each to their own views though ;-/

B&O might well use Samsung panels in their TV's, Sony do as well. No harm in that as they are known for being pretty good however the same can't be said for their audio products. Overpriced and not very good is the general view in the audiophile world. However B&O are not the same as Bose. The former is a Danish company and Bose are American...

I think PilotAudi's original comment about B&O was referring to the sound system they make for the A3 rather than the company in general. I have the B&O sound in my car and consider it excellent, although expensive. However I'd certainly agree that doesn't automatically mean everything else B&O as a company make is great!

Absolutely Tim.. The B&O in Audi is IMHO worth every penny of the £500 (-discount) premium over ASS. Certainly I have no other B&O experiences being a mere Pleb ;-)

I guess I will be able to do a back to back comparison between the system in the Q3 against the standard audio that will be in my saloon...

And I predict you will side with the standard system as you don't have B&O in your car.
It's very easy to write something off that you don't have.

B&O is worth it for the better sound quality when you are heading towards louder volumes, increased quantity of speakers, plus the fact that the front door speaker surround illuminates when the car lights are on.

I can't justify that amount of money for something I don't really need, full stop. I get in the car, I enjoy my drive and then I get out again. What's on the radio, and I mostly listen to radio 6 not very loud at all, I pay little attention to. If a song comes on that I like then maybe I will turn up the volume a little but its not worth spending £750 on just for that. I wouldn't even spend that kind of money for a home system.
Anyway its all academic now, my car is in production thus I cannot change the specs, not that I feel the need too..

Personally, i'm of the same opinion with Cuke2u. But as they say, different strokes for different folks. I'll be going in for a test drive next Sunday. I hope i can get it all sorted then.

Having driven the Q3 for a week now I can't say I'm impressed with a vehicle costing over £37k. It has no DAB, the door mirrors do not fold automatically when you lock the car, I can't see, aside from the leather seats, where all that money has gone. I feel like I am sitting on the car, not in it when I am driving. There is so little driver involvement at all, no feedback, no emotional experience that I get from my Focus. Even with the 177ps diesel engine it runs out of 'puff' far too easily. The 1.6 ecoboost engine in my Focus has far more about, more interesting and I say it had more 'grunt' as well, much more exciting to drive.
Going back to the Bose sound system, sure it has bass and maybe that impresses some people, however the bass is muddy and ill-defined and I cannot hear any positional placing of instruments within the music..

And it's not like you have 'Purchase Justification Syndrome' or anything, right? :p

I'm really happy with the Audi Sound System, from the reviews I've read of people on here who have heard both (and the base audio), the B&O just doesn't seem like it's worth the extra £500 - which is a huge amount of money for slightly better sound when you try and burst your eardrums with the volume.

Agree...I currently have the Concert radio system in my A4 and have listened to the B&O in the SQ5 - the B&O sounded over-processed: light on the bass and lacking in high treble. Suspect it may be an issue with the 'surround' nature of the sound. Haven't heard the B&O system in the A3 though...

Have to agree. At least the Q7 is a monster in size to justify its price tag but I wasn't impressed with the Q7. I just sat in a Vauxhall Antara and was pleasantly surprised by the quality inside considering it was a 57 plate and at £9K on a forecourt (should be nearer £7.5k actually) it represented incredible value used. It wasn't quite up to S3 quality inside but wasn't far off. Mind you the one I looked was fully loaded.

Don't see the point of the Q3 other than the elevated position as its not a true offroader anyway. I think its purely for idiots who cant drive so that if they inevitably hit someone else due to their incompetence they don't come worse off.

You cant deny the audis have in the main the best interiors but they are stingy on options - folding mirrors, auto wipers, auto lights are standard kit on just about all other makes now.

I don't think there is any need for that. Typical arrogant audi driver comment. I bet you have never driven another make. I have, so open your eyes. Do I need to be arrogant before I start driving my audi or is it something that occurs when I start driving one?

Anyway I might get it, but it would our 3rd car anyway as we get a dog, for tip runs, lugging big stuff. This will be whilst I wait for my s3, long wait of near 6 months.

Yes well we've all had bad unreliable cars that bias our opinions.

I was just giving a observation, having driven the Q3, and how I could never justify that kind of cost and want to purchase one. There are much better cars in that class that are a better drive, has more equipment and are far cheaper. Its not that the Q3 is all bad. The car is quiet with little cabin noise and it cruises along eating up motorway mileage with some refinement. But when I get out of the car after some 160 miles or so of driving it I think did I have fun, can I remember a point when I was really enjoying driving the Q3 and the answer is 'no'.

I am looking forward to the arrival of my Saloon now as I am sure it will be a better car, I bloody well hope so.

Oh come on, that was 1994!! Cars have come a LONG way since then. Believe it or not in 1994 Audi were rubbish.

Anyway I am not Vauxhall fan or Ford for that matter, not keen on any of their cars, I did prefer French cars like Peugeots but they've lost their way until the new 308 came out, which looks pretty decent.

Very true but that could be said of any make. SUVs and 4x4s are for people who want something practical or don't like driving. For me it would be a 3rd car used as a workhorse for allotment and tip runs etc. Thing is the audi offroaders/suvs imo aren't great because they are massive but that doesn't translate to big interior space - q7 is the size of a articulated lorry

Sorry Steve IMHO in 1994 VW had the brilliant mk3 golf we had one P**456L . Never missed a beat in 3 years. Similar With Audis of that era too. Daughter has just had a loaner Corsa 13 plate, absolute pile of 5h17e.

Mind you I did have a new loaner astra 1.4 about 20 years ago, gutless and with steering and chassis that was so lifeless I was too scared to drive it at anything over grandma speed on a dual carriageway (50mph). 3rd worst car ive driven

    1. Nissan Sunny - loan car - I was certin the steering was connected to the wheels and as for the brakes I think they were made from butter

    2. MG Metro - loan car - held together by rust and only >2 years old - no wonder they went bust

    3. Chevrolet spark - built to last 15 mins, fuel filler cap disintegrated in my hand on first use- car with 3 months old lol. best thing for this car would be to set fire to it. Makes the ford ka look luxurious

    4. Astra 1.4 - loan car - awful handling

    5. Vectra 1.8 and 2.0 tdi- loan cars - awful handling

Glad you agree steve. Look at the number of old VAG cars there are still around golf from 77 on still running . Collectable Gti models loved and cherished . Many of us moved on to Audi when we could afford it. Today Audi is more common than VW on uk roads but both are brilliant products . I prefer Waitrose to Tesco which is pretty much where Audi is in relation to Poxall. Folks believe the former are cheaper the reverse is true in my experience. You may well spend more because there is a better range of product or food but that's a different argument !

My experience of VW wasn't great though, I had a mk2 golf gti 8v 1984/a. Absolute mint condition but still had problems. My next car a Peugeot 205gti 1.9 and later modded to 170bhp was a lot more reliable.

I prefer homegrown/made than any supermarket stuff, though waitrose and M&S are acceptable.

Hate Asda, Tesco and Morrisons more because it attracts s**m and most of their food really sucks.

Good example, M&S were reducing stuff on xmas eve and in M&S it was all good natured, completely the opposite of what I saw in Asda, Tesco and Morrisons when I had to go there in search of non food stuff.

food v non food, surely not that hard to understand if you actually bothered to read my post. My local Waitrose and M&S don't sell diy stuff , tape, etc. it does attract s**m, you know the sort that thinks they are invincible and just walk out in front of moving cars
