You A3 will almost certainly be outside the production dates concerned - 1 Sept 2008 to 31 Aug 2009. The dates on the VOSA recall notice are in the American M/D/Y format unless someone has added more months in the year to bring the total to 31!!. The 9/1/2008 date is 1 Sept 2008 and the 8/31/2009 is 31 Aug 2009. Why on earth the UK VOSA should publish a document with American date format I have no idea. It could lead to a lot of confusion.

If you car is on a 08 plate it must have been registered before 1 Sept 2008 and built some time before that.

Mine was built during the week beginning 13 April 2009 so no doubt will be subject to the recall.

Ah sorry Dave, I didn't read that mine is 01/03/2008, which is even better, because Audi dealers do my head in!!

Fortunately I don't have that problem with my dealer. I will be looking forward to going along to see them and have a chat.

It's because you are a 60 year old + man, so they don't look at you with disrespect, whereas every Audi dealer I go into because of my age (25) they look at me as if I can't afford an Audi when I have parked outside the door? :think:And no I'm not scruffy, or wearing a tracksuit

Your right I am sixty plus but I think it's much more to do with the attitude of the staff at the dealer. I have been dealing with one or other brach of this particular company for well over 30 years and I have always been treated the same. With respect and courtesy and just as I would expect. The sales person I deal with has been the same person for the last 10 years and whilst the service staff has changed quite often over the years they still show the same attitute. Perhaps it's because the Group, Vindis, is still a 'family' business that was set up by a father just after the war and is now run by his two sons, who have a day-to-day involvement in the running of the organisation and interview all the key staff.

Several other members of this forum have also used Vindis aka Huntingdon Audi and as far as I am aware have always been happy with the way they have been treated.

Well your lucky then Dave! As Bristol Audi and Manchester Audi offer very very poor customer service.

I also been into quite a number of other Audi dealers. Most have been OK but I do remember going into one dealer showroom and standing there for 10 minutes without anyone even asking if they could help. In the end I just walked out.

Yes I remember this being an american issue, might have been Dave who pointed it out or was it someone else, obviously finally trickled over here.

Yep, In addition, the US versions have had the DSG/S-tronic warranties extended to 100,000 miles... -I have my inclusion letter here if anyone needs it for reference.

I understand that this is not connected with the temperature sensor issues (which were apparently confined to a smaller subset of cars built within the same period) and certainly my car was built BEFORE the date range for which this sensor is applicable... -But there have apparently also been some mechatronic cluster-failures (I think) which has led to Audi of America warranting the transmission for 100k miles as a public confidence fillip.

I believe that 2007, 2008 and 2009 were covered by the 100k warranty extension, whereas only 2008 was covered by the temperature sensor recall.

Actually the recall was only for the temperature sensor, mine is a 2009 (Sept 2009) and was held the week of delivery due to the sensor recall and a few weeks later I received the warranty extension letter from AoA, the mechatronics unit is not included as it has affected a very small number of these cars

I've had various dealings with Northampton Audi (also Vindis) and have no complaints. They have always been very helpful.

It's not unusual, but happens in all types of retail. One of the best stories I heard was from the manager of Dixons in Manchester. A scruffy looking guy entered the shop, and nobody approached him, but just watched him from a distance as if he was up to no good. In the end he spent £10K+ on toys. Turned out it was Ian Brown...

You should never make assumptions based on appearance, but unfortunately it's human nature that we do.

I emailed VOSA and commented about the dates being in American format and it now seems that they have corrected them to read in UK format.

My A3 is now booked-in for the software update to be done on 9 February. By all it counts it will take approximate an hour overall.

In case anyone is interested here is the more detailed explanation of the problem from the Audi of America website. Shame Audi UK does not give any information on it's website as well.

    What is the Problem?
The wiring harness of a temperature sensor in the DSG may have connector wires that were
insufficiently crimped by the connector supplier during a limited production period. With
insufficiently crimped connector wires, a temperature sensor has the potential to falsely detect a high
gearbox oil temperature, causing the clutch to open and can cause the driver to perceive that the
transmission has shifted into Neutral. If this happens, the selector lever position indicator within the
instrument panel will flash. In addition, the Depress Brake Pedal indicator light will be illuminated,

alerting the driver to apply the brakes. In heavy traffic, this could lead to a crash without warning.

Spent 25 minutes in a VW dealer jumping in and out of the Scirroco and GTI and walking around both cars. Fair enough they were busy I had no acknowledgement whatsoever from anyone.

Went to an Audi and was literally thrown a set of key to test drive a car I peered into! Cup of tea offered straight after the test drive. That's pretty attentive!

Received my letter from Audi UK dated 29 Januray this morning about the 37E5 recall for the Control unit of the DSG. Any one else received one or do the other 1453 owners affected not look-in to ASN?

Had my DSG software update done this afternoon. It took exactly one hour. I sat in the waiting area next to the full height windows to the actual workshop and my car was dealt with by this windows. It seem to involved connecting up the computer and quite a lot of key pressing. Whilst it was there the technician also checked the tyre depths, checked the oil and topped up the washer fluid. When the update was finished he also raised the car and did a visual check on, I assume the brakes and hoses at each wheel. Drive my car back nothing felt any different and the gear position indicator was working just as it should. Needless to say this was all done at no cost to me.
