    Hi all

This ios my first post, I'll do the welcome section afterwards ;-)

Anyway, Im going to look at a 2000 S4 tomorrow. Ive printed off the buyers guide, and been doing some research, but the thing I cant seem to find are the day to day running costs. So, without things that break (as that can hapen at any time) how much do you spend on average? I mean, petrol is about 20-25 mpg right? Then what about oil changes, servicicng (dealer or specialist)? etc.

If its gonna prove too expensve then I may have to rethink my plans, but hopefully it wont ;-)

    Cheers

I just paid £1700 for a gearbox, clutch and flywheel (parts and labour)

Incidentally mine is up for sale, Not because of the repairs but down to finances. It's in the sales section.

depends how heavy your right foot is, anything from 16 to 35 on a steady run with the wife, kids and numerous other "economy" additions. i average 23 going to work and back, 3 mile run in traffic each way. all depends on the driver and state of tune really. running costs for me have been limited to tyres (£400) servicing (£80 but i do it myself) vag-com (£150 from the states, essential in my opinion) remap £500, custom that is, not generic) and a new MAF, diverters and samco TBB and F-pipe (precautionary)

i need a pair of rear vented discs but they're around £50 plus pads from vag-parts.

that's my total in 14k miles and 18 months of ownership not counting the megs products for cleaning and polishing. mines an X reg, 2001 with 131k on the clock

That sounds ok Dave to be honest. I reckon Im a similar sort of driver from your write up there, like to boot it now and then but not stupid with it. I do a 15 mile journey to work, and then the same back thorugh a bit of traffic but nothing major.

Discs and pads for £50??? Thats fecking cheap!!

MAFs are ALWAYS sh*t on VAG cars it seems, so thats cool. I also have Vag-Com already, and a service is easy, until belts are involved.

    What about coil packs?

ooops, i meant 50 for the discs, not priced the pads yet, no issues with the V6 regarding coil packs. only other thing i forgot was a boost gauge, nice AWE vent gauge which i really should pay Clive for. it's essential for monitoring the integrity of the intake tracts

MTM chip 300BHP - town driving 200 miles out of a tank; 350 miles out of a tank cruising under 90.

Servicing should really be done every 5-7000 miles with good quality oils.

Initial purchase expect to spend a couple hundred quid sorting niggles like MAF, Diverter valves, boost leaks, after that they are pretty solid and reliable. Unfortunately turbos do pop (My car with just 36k on the clock and services every 5k from new) - you just need to be prepared for 3k bill if it does happen. Well worth it if it does though :D
