S3's generally blow up when detonated with C4 or in the case of most terrorist groups, Fertiliser based devices. 
But seriously, do a search, there is LOADS of info with tales of woe, strubble and dife.
The usual coil packs, water pumps, occasional boost hoses blowing off (when chipped), occasional steering angle sensors, lateral acceleration sensors, headlight motors or their sensors, worn creaking ARB bushes and other bushes at higher mileage, slipping clutches when chipped...
There is loads loads more but in general if you look after it and drive with at least a modicum of compassion then they are pretty reliable.
