After having power issues and ABP not being able to find a fault i took it to audi. Only 10 mins of looking at it and the find there was a slight crack in the dump vavle, there was also a air mass meter coming up on the diagnostics.............

The techinican changed the dump valve and the car has power again! only prob now is the power is weak and has huge flatspots through the rev range with the boost coming and going!

He has advised me to change the air mass meter and go from their. Does this sound like a air mass meter problem, they are charging £105 to buy and fit.

    Any help appraciated, Thanks.

Not tried with it disconected? Should i disconnect when the engine is off ect... then go for a drive?

What would it be if it still had boost problems when unplugged?

yep simple to disconnect. give it a quick run and see if the flatspots are still there. It will throw an engine management light but this should go out when reconnected and starting up again. If probs still there then there are a host of things it could possible be - search using 'hesitation' and you'll find a host of threads.

Should cost about £70/75 exchange for the part (get and Audi one) and about 5mins to fit tbh...

Only consists of removing to screws, the TIP jubilee clip and the MAF plug...

If you choose to take it away and do it you will have to pay the surcharge (mine was £20 ish IIRC) and ask them if its the best price they can do... my local dealer usually gives me 10% off when I ask :)

I have one on order and they quoted me about 70 quid for an exchange (can;t remember the exact figure). what is the 20 quid surcharge actually all about?

Thats so you dont order one with a promise to exchange ,and then dont have it. Or it could be the classic Garage "OTHER TAX"

I gave the MAF sensor ago last night and it did seem to pull slightly better unpluged. If i replace the MAF should i see very good gains on my low power delivery??

Also Audi have quoted me £105 for the MAF and to fit, also with a quick diagnostic. Should i let them fit it for that price.....

If the MAF is knackered, new MAF = new car almost, you'd be shocked at how much power you could lose with a knackered MAF, but you never felt the power loss, as the MAF failed over time for you to notice.

If you know how to hold a screwdriver, you can change it in 10 minutes max outside the dealership yourself, you will need a torx bit to get the sensor part off though. But if you really want to pay £25 for them to do it, then it's entirely upto you.

    Cheers for the help guys.

I bough the car with the power feeling weak after 3k revs then after 2 days of owning it the power just went altogether!

Audi have changed a cracked dump valve for me and have got the car out of limp mode and they said the only fault they can find is a MAF sensor, So i'm hoping the new sensor will give me all the lost power back as it is very slow atm!

Think i'm just going to let them do it, as won't i pay more for the MAF if i fit it myself.............................

Mate this is one job you should tackle yourself, at least the fitting of the replacement anyway, up to you if you want to get it on the diagnostic afterwards. I just picked up my new MAF and fitted it today.

The part number is 06A906461EX and at Dundee Audi i paid £63.99 + VAT so a total of £73.59
As already stated everywhere in these forums, it is an absolute piece of p*ss to replace.

And the exchange unit is the meter AND the housing so you shouldn't need any torx bits, just two phillips screws where it joins the airbox and then the jubilee clip holding the hose on the other end.

Honestly, about 10 minutes job max.

10 minutes and ur still driving around with an airflow meter fault stored in the ecu, wont cause any issues but could lead to misdiagnosis when the next thing goes wrong.

    Ok update!

To say i'm pissed of is an understatment! Went Audi this morning to have the MAF fitted and the code to be removed and they charged me £143!

As you can imagine i wasn't too pleased but they assured me the car was now boosting properly, only to find out the car is still the same and is loosing boost as it was before!

The power feels better with the new MAF but still isn't right. So back to the dealers i went to give them a good telling off lol. The mechinic told me that it feels like a normal powered S3, how the hell can it feel like a normal S3 if it is not boosting and loosing power! To cut a long story short the head technition say's it could be the boost regulator valve sticking and is going to fit one free of charge of tuesday for me. I have now spent £340 on the car and have got nowhere!

I have told Audi that i'm very dissapointed with the techinitions and feel i have wasted alot of money in changing parts that are making no change the power delivery.

Sorry for going on but i'm really down atm lol. The car is not fully boosting and the power just drops off and feels very flat through the rev range, what do you think the problem coud be??

    Thanks.

Right they have fitted the boost pressure regulator valve and it has improved it alot. But it still isn't boosting high enough!

The Boost is very weak and doesn't feel quick at all, even in first gear! Do you think it needs a new turbo?? Is there anyway i can check that the turbo is at full boost?

Audi are also trying to charge me for the part now even tho they said it would be free on saturday! I told the manager i was under the impresion it was free of charge as they fitted a incorrect part ect.....she let me take the car but said they will ring me in the morning as it was getting late!

Still not paying as i was told it was free. What a nightmare the audi is becoming:keule:

Get a cheap ebay/halfrauds boost gauge plumbed in and check what the boost is. Tap the pipework off the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) as this will give you the pressure at the inlet manifold.

    Report back what it says....

You can fit this temporarily should you wish rather worry about fitting it properly as you want to be able to check the boost pressure... they other way is to log it using VAGCOM.

Do you know if the car has been mapped? Mine runs at around 1.1/1.2bar on a stage 1 Custom Code

Cheers for the help mate. My car is completly standard, it's going to a tuning garage tomorrow to check the boost pressure and find out if the car has a fault.

If there are no faults it's going to be re-mapped to get some power back lol.

Hi all the tuning garage said there was no problem and the car was boosting around 0.8 bar, although he did say the car felt quite flat and the turbo boost felt weak (like i have said since buying the car)

To cut a long story short he mapped the car using some sort of vag com to a 160 map and upped the boost to 1.5 bar and took the 155mph limiter off! The car feels great now but i still think the boost feels low compared to others i have drove???

    160 map??

Also tuffty is running 1.2 bar & yours is 1.5 & I would guess both on a stage 1 generic as I call them map, so bit of difference in boost levels, can anyone else add there boost levels for comparison?

Things to change if power issues would be DV, Air system maybe use of BMC CDA, check for boost leaks, turbo problems, intake pipe collapsing under vacuum, back pressures maybe cat has problem, etc, also get someone close to you with similar s3 to test drive with you & compare if yours is down or not, sometimes we can get used to or expect more than what we actually should be getting, I know my S3 used to change for me between feeling lightning quick to just fast & this was just me not the car, when I used to get in my S4 & then my S3 it would make me think actually its very quick given was lighter smaller car, lol.
