    Hi All,

As you know been running stage 2+ for around 10,000 miles.

When it was taken from stage 1 to 2+ i had the plugs and coilpacks changed over to fresh OEM ones as reccomended by AMD Essex. The ones in there were fecked and gave up the minute it went 2+. Now i had previously seen a lot of talk about colder Iridium plugs but AMD said there was no need (not sure why)

My car has developed a major misfire/stutter and im thinkin its got to be the plugs again as it feels exactly how i did last time they went. I have two questions do i go for another stock set or colder ones?

Also who has the OEM plug part nos so i can get them from Euro car oarts or the like?? or if you have a different suggestion of plug which ones?

Thanks in advance and quick helped will be much appreciated!!

    Rye

Have you got vagcom if so you could do some data logging to see what coilpacks need replacing .
I'f not and it was me I would change all four to be on the safe side.

    Coilpacks shouldn't need replacing.

Take the plugs out and clean them GENTLY with a bit of electrical contact cleaner and an old toothbrush. Should keep you going until new ones arrive if it's just a bit of plug veneering.

One of the usual suspects did data logging with plugs and Iridium 7's gave better general running conditions than OEM plugs. Only issue you will suffer is if you do lots of short journeys they may cack up quicker.

In principle I agree with AmD that OEM should be fine, but the 6 temperature plugs don't seem to last any better. Supposedly VAG group are running a revised plug in these engines now, so may just be worth trying those from main dealer; about £40.

hopefully another 10k! although it wiull be in for service in 5k haldex change, oil service an all that. So will prob have another new set then. Im not being funny but for £40-50 its worht changing them often. I think the fact i do lots of small journeys where the car doesn't get fully warmed isn't helping!

Interesting.....the advice I've had from both AMD and VWRacing is to use stock plugs, and change every 5000 miles or so.
My car has been at Stg3 for around 12 000 miles, and Stg2+ for nearly 20 000 miles before that, with no problems related to the plugs.....the only misfire issues we had were down to the stock intake strangling the airflow, and once that was removed(at 2+),there have been no further problems.

Who knows.....it may be individual cars and settings, and a host of other things, but as I said, mine has behaved itself very well, and there are no misfires if the plugs are changed every 5 000 miles or so.
I've certainly found it easy to tell when a set are on the way out,as it does develop a progressive softening and small misfire under full throttle when they're really done......but the OEM ones are fine with 2 bar peak boost......WMI and more power on the way.

its probably cause i left it so long to change them, a pure oversight! it was around 11k! so there your answer probs! it went exactly how you said! softened, then misfire!

    cheers Al!

nice to see your taking your car to the next step! have to get a run out in this sometime before you let it go!

I left a set for 10 000 miles and found exactly this problem......just a worsening misfire and softening performance, which a new set cured.
Mine is almost ready after having a bottom end build(pistons and rods) as well as a USP Motorsports auxiliary fuel pump, turbo heat jacket, few BSH bits, and an AEM water injection kit.....a friend of mine on another forum has a mate getting over 530bhp on this sort of setup,so my fingers are crossed.

Any time you can get to one of AMD's Open Days,or perhaps the Inters next year.....or something I can get to,you'd be more than welcome.
