S3 sounds like a jet engine on first start up

Hi all

i have a 2000 S3 APY engine and i have started to notice the car sounds
like a jet engine on start up.. say first start up in the morning.

and also if left for long periods of time.

even my next door neigbough asked me why the car makes this noise

do all S3's make this noise.. or is something about to Bang!!

I would guess it's the secondary air pump falling apart and very much not normal. The pump is there to help warm the cat before everything is up to temp for emissions purposes. You might want to get a specalist to take a look, it might also be throwing an error code if it's that bad.

no ECU lights on the dashboard

and it only happens for a few seconds then goes off

THe car drives and performs fine no prob's at all

It would throw a code unless you had it coded out. As i am sure it looks for more than a resistance

mine is also making this annoying noise. has anyone used that blanking plate that viper 6 pointed out as i would be interested. i read that the facelift s3's do not have the pump
