Sorry for another thread on remaps but have looked through a lot of old content and wanted some more up to date opinions/advice.

I am looking for a remap, but there seems to be so many options, i want a proper health check first as I have always thought my S3 was down a bit on power but never been sure as I ride a bike and don't know if it just feels slow.
So I guess the popular choices are AMD, SHARK, R-TECH, AND AWESOME? Forgive me if I have missed anyone out. They all sound/ look good but where do I go? I am South west based near Swindon but don't mind travelling, AMD are offering 50% off remaps if bought with a milltek cat back so this seems like a logical step but please correct me if I am just blinded by the offer as I had a mini mapped at Amd in Bicester when Adam run the company but I have not dealt with them in years and not sure if they are what they were??

    Thanks

    Richard

tbh, all your choices are popular ones, and all know their stuff.

autho do 'awsome' have their own maps? or just dealers of others?

but i think its up to you to decide if you want a generic map from a brand or a custom.

Something you need to decide on your own I think you will get a lot of recommendations from people that have there own garage they use maybe get one will rolling road and get the car on it before map ? Then get it done on the rollers or logged on the road ? Make sure it's ok before map and you will get an idea of increase after, would say be warned that depending on age milage etc clutches sometimes need replaced ( not always just putting that out there) and other little things like DV etc just thought it was worth mentioning but car is so much better after remap I chose shark and made the trip from Scotland to shark themselves and will be back this year for stage 3 great service from them car has so much more and pulls smoothly right through the rev range

REVO, AmD, APR and Shark are your main ones. But it's just down to your feelings if you go down that (generic) route. Personally I can't speak highly enough of Shark, used their STS system then went and got it tweaked at HQ. Check out my build thread for the full review.

Where ever you go, don't travel a million miles to get it done. If you make a 250 mile trip, get home, realise there's a problem which can't be sorted over the phone, you're gonna have to make the long trip again for it sorting.

I had the same predicament as you last September when I wanted my 2012 S3 stage 1 mapped. I don't think you'll go far wrong with the big names of REVO, APR, SHARK etc however I wanted a rolling road set up and the name that I kept going back to was RTech over in Hinkley. After reading various reviews and speaking to them I made the 1.5hr trip to them and I can't recommend them enough! Even though my car was only a year old Nick gave it a full check over before a pre map dyno run, then after various tweeking and dyno runs he was happy so firstly he took me out on the road and then I went out alone to ensure I was totally happy, all this before any money was handed over. All in this cost me £290 which is far cheaper than the big names and their service could not be faulted. You may want to speak to Badger5 as they're only in Gloucester so near to you and highly regarded.

It's very important to me to ensure that it is a ok first, must be rolling roadbed first so that I know I'm not trying to polish a turd! It is an 07 plate, and in very good nick, but want to make sure the engine is where it should be first. I will be ready for a new clutch as it is a manual, and am taking the DV off this weekend for a little looky!

r tech everyday they know the engines well and have a new philosophy on tuning its not all about how much boost can you run its about making it work well at lower temps! they have been able to push more power from some of the 1.8ts at 1.6 bar than 1.8 bar but when its done at least their maps are fully custom and they work out cheaper than revo !

For me it was Revo or Shark. Shark HQ is 7 miles away and a lot cheaper so it was a no brainer. Had my car 2 years and its been superb. I still think about what Revo would feel like though with the linear map. LOL.

I've used Revo maps, all loaded by AMDTuning, and had no problems.

As above, any decent tuner should check the car over first, and put it on a rolling road, before, and after the mapping,as well as log it on the real road, before it's handed back to you.

All of the major mapping companies offer broadly similar products in terms of requirements and power/torque,so it comes down to personal choice, and where the nearest recommended tuner is.

I went from Scotland to shark hq to get mine done as I wanted it done on the rolling road, I will be going back that's for stage 3 to be done I just wanted to go with shark and mark (brotek) is the only one that offers this in Scotland but doesn't have rolling road but if I needed back up for anything he is close by and knows his stuff. Really depends on what you decide and how far you are prepared to go seems a lot more in England than up ere tho for choices, but it defo changes the car big time would like to go in a car with revo to see the difference tho so if you fancy a road trip to Scotland anyone haha
