Hmmm, whilst I agree, how bad can it really be? I've found them in the states for much cheaper money, however can only find the small port variants annoyingly, which sort of defeats the object.

Bottom line, if it's shitty, I'll let you all know, and then I'll move it on.... lol.

400bhp not possible from this turbo imho, on std bore/stroke motor... I dont see 30bhp magicing up from bolt on mods.. Perhaps some from an largeport inlet mani.. We may find out, but finding another 30bhp is a big ask.

390bhp on my ibiza from it, on a.n.other dyno (lottery applies) and my ibiza was 1900cc/83mm bore, ran largeport dual plenum intake, so had some other mods.. which may account for the 20bhp difference we see. that and dyno lottery, its producing all it can.

    Morning all....

For those of you familiar with my threads, you will know that it simply could not be complete without some kind of disaster....

So, you will be glad to hear that it happened.

As usual, things come in 3s:

    1) Failed the MOT. Brakes are ***** I must admit and the tester said he wasn't happy with the pedal travel. I agree, although a pain, it does need sorting. Master cylinder is the suspect... £100 ish.

    2) The S3 has decided she wants to change careers and stop being a car, and become a train. Sadly, it's decided to take up smoking (probably spending too much time with me). Looks like one of the valve guides exhaust side has gone south and is allowing oil into the exhaust gas stream. Bugger. Now wishing I had them done when the head was apart - however hindsight etc etc etc.

    3) A personal matter, but the third did occur. lol.

So, bit of a bugger on the whole, however not insurmountable problems - just vaguely irritating.

So what's the plan I hear you ask...

    BURN IT!!!!

Not really, and there is a bright side as always.

Having the head off will make the master cylinder far easier to do. Bonus.

Going to have all the valves out and checked, then relapped.

Then head will be clean as a whistle, as currently she's a little gammy to be fair. Again, can only help oil circulation - bonus.

So, back to the head removal game... yay. I think.

    More later.

All the best, if anyone can do it, it will be you mate.. I am at the point of burning mine. no ignition, misfires, very loud clank, broken rear spring, unkown exhaust leak! weird dash & speedo. It could have been worse still!

OK, low mileage master cylinder from a TT 225 2003 secured and bought. Comes with the sensors as well which is a bonus.

    Less than £60 delivered.

    Tick that off then...

OK, got home and have taken the head off.

Bottom end looks OK, identical to when I last saw it, which is good.

Head is OK, despite having run a little lean. Turbo also looking good - although slightly forlorn at the lack of boost it's not producing... lol.

I haven't inspected the head yet, and don't plan to now until tomorrow, however first observations are that cylinder 4's exhaust ports are damp, yet the inlets are dry.... Hmmm. They are both completely damp all over, where as all the other exhaust ports are dry as a bone...

I think we may have a winner....

Sad at throwing another £70's worth of gear in the bin... Bolts and gasket, bye bye.

Well, it's typical master cylinder symptoms to be fair, leaving pressure on the pedal will allow the pedal to sink slowly to the floor.

We shall see, fitting it should be a doddle now! lol
