S3 PDC Retrofit

Hello all, I would like to retrofit PDC if at all possible. My car is 2002 so has a full CAN setup.

Is it possible? I can't find any details on the net or on here.

Any info greatfully received.

Parking distance control and control area network.

I have seen plenty on Ebay but as with most things on there you are better with the real mccoy. I am sure someone can give you a parts list for a retro fit.

I think I've seen you posting in a few of the RNS-E posts? I'm currently waiting on an RNS-E to arrive so I'll be getting that fitted this w/e.

What do you recommend for trimming the sides of the unit? (I'm using an 8E0 035 192 version).
 
Do you have double DIN already? I take it you have access to VAG-com to do the coding? Send me a PM with your mail address.
 
late S3's only ever had a half-CAN setup, and is a strange hybrid of the two systems.
 
Mark you have Email, it will help you out loads. I am busy doing a PS2 and Andymac at the moment.
 
I'd love Bluetooth and an iPOd interface for my iPod Video - with Video in if possible.

If not done any research in to these yet though :)
 
You need a Dietz 1417 from Germany and an Ipod RCA adapter. I am not a fan of Ipod due to software rights.

Bluetooth is meant to be a good upgrade. I have got a cradle car kit so not in a rush for it. I have got into the routine of putting the phone in the holder everytime I get in and it is handy for charging.
 
Ahh OK, do you know what is the largest size SD card that the RNS-E will take?

I could almost do away with an iPod - just set up my tunes folder as a briefcase and have Windows sync it every time I put the card in the card reader on the PC. Is it possible to play video from the SD cards?

If so I may as well sell the iPod!
 
4gb. Max number of files/tracks is 512 so no point getting to bigger card. I use 1gb's. No video though.

Hence the Dietz 1417, this will give you RCA inputs for a source such as DVD player.
 
i did look into parking sensors maybe a year ago seemed exspensive like £300+ but see what VAG parts say. The majority of the cost was the insert panel in the rear bumper which was £200ish on its own.
 
Cheers matty, they seem to be pretty busy at the moment, I've still not got a reply from a mail I sent on Monday.

I've just ordered a Dietz 1417, so if the parking sensors are working out at 300ish it'll be cheaper and easier for me to add a rear facing camera that is activated in reverse, and is fed through the Dietz and displayed on the RNS-E.
 
There is a reverse signal on the RNS-E. I am sure s8Craig will know more.

I've not followed this up asking for individual parts as I'm going to use a camera now, they may well be available, if not there is an S3 PDC bumper on German ebay at the moment.
 
The parking control unit goes behind the right rear light and the buzzer behind the left rear light. I bet there are cross marks on the back of the trim to drill the holes for the sensors. You would need to order these 3 parts and work out the wiring.

Where do you plan to mount the camera?

audi upgrades
I have my car in bits at the moment and I can find any spare plugs in the rear left light area for the buzzer. Anyone with PDC know where the buzzer is exactly?
 
Well i downloaded a PDF from a link someone provided which shows the construction / put together of the interior. I would imagine there is also an exterior PDF to. I just dont know where it came from. Try doing a search.
 
My car has (Aps) Audibale Parking sensors fitted as an option form the Factory and the Beep comes from the speaker thing above the ashtray as far as i can tell uses the same beep as when you put the car in Reverse(this may not happen on a non APS equipped car)
 
no the beep doesnt happen on a non APS car. I m not gonna donwload them to look but what i have is a PDF which is an official Audi document.

I publish here information of my last modification that was delayed months due to a delay of parts at dealer. The asked me for each wire with two terminals 3euros, so i finally bought them at kufatec.

Parts:

To hold the electronic unit there are a lot of possibilities, I bought the foam rubber holder that use the A4 B5 instead of buying the metal holder that uses the A3.

I'm very much interested! :) I would put original PDC on my S3 8L BAM :)

Topic's pictures aren't visible nowdays unfortunately (on spanish forum too) :(
 
Anyone put PDC on his S3 8L recently? Thank you :)
 
If someone are interest about try put OEM PDC on its S3 8L, I would do the same on my one, so I'm available to make test. But I don't know where buy components (Audi doesn't sell it nowdays).
