S3 owners ?

The journos seem to like the Golf.

But based on the ones Ive seen on the road I wouldnt buy the R purely on looks, its just not a nice looking car in my eyes.
IMO the Gti looks much nicer, but 211bhp doesnt interest me at all.

Ive driven the 20T Rocco which is a lovely thing, I would have a 4wd Rocco R in a heartbeat, but alas, it doesnt exist!

Im sure the Rocco R is a capable thing even in 2wd flavour, but now Im used to 4wd it would be difficult to move back into a fwd.

I can see the Golf R being tempting as its a newer car than the S3, albeit a warmed over version of the same underpinnings.

Got the itch to change ??

Always looking Paul and i noticed this Rocco R ( the Golf R is about 5 cars below it on the advert) I thought the Rocco looked cheap but having looked about i think its OK but not a bargain. Its a bit alarming to see how much the Golf has dropped over 3k miles !! bearing in mind the owner would have got a lot less than that asking price !!
Trouble is i really like the DSG and 4 wheel drive and that dosent half limit your options :)

Funnily enough my circumstances may change in the next couple of months which would necessitate a dirty derv. Could manage a 30ltr tdi A5 Sportback.

I tried the coupe and while its not a free revving petrol, its dream of a thing to drive with some real shove in the back !! :)
Very expensive if you want DSG, not so bad for norm Auto /CVT. Manuals are cheaper as you can get older and more of them. that said, if you want a sportback its going to be newer anyway...

Hi Paddy
I almost bought a Golf R, I test drove both manual & DSG boxes. I found them to be quick & composed cars with IMO slightly sharper handling than my S3, this is probably down to the Golf being a newer model. These cars were so alike in performance I'd struggle to separate them, the Audi has a better interior but the Golf is rarer & more aggressive looking. With either of these cars DSG would be a must.

Anyhoo, back on topic-ish I would still be tempted with an S3 over the golf and rocco r. But would choose the uglier one of the 2 r cars, purely because of the 4wd.

Cheers
Paul
