S3 Miltek resonated exhaust to non resonated exhaust

Hi guys and girl's,

quick question, I have a 1999 S3 with a Miltek cat back stainless steel exhaust system and as far as I know its resonated ( its very quiet ). Was wondering if I can change the resonated part and swap it out for a non resonated part or remove something to de-resonate it?

Don't know If I'm talking crap or if its possible or not.

Any info would be appreciated, thank you.

I think its only a extra silencer that the difference, im not to sure.

I would take it to a exhaust fabricator and ask them to remove a silencer

Or get a de cat pipe for more audio

May be the answer, I know a good Audi specialist I go to but don't any exhaust fabricators locally - will have to ask around. I was under the impression that you can just buy a centre section, swap it over and job done? not sure where I read that though.

Does the de cat pipe get rid of the cat I guess? and how much would I be looking to spend?

ouch, I just kinda wanna see what my Miltek will sound like non resonated before I commit, mine is quite - got a nice tune but with no real vocals. Don't want look chavvy, but on the Miltek site they make loud exhaust but there not excessive or for boy racers.

Ye, i think thats whats nice about miltek, there not made for chavs, but they still have that nice sound to them, yep the whole system works out quite pricey.. : (

i was also looking at ''blueflame'' exhause systems, they are ment to be really niice..

Well I all ready have the Milltek, was on the car when I brought it. Wanted to see what its like non-resonated but don't think its going to be a easy task lol.

mm, ye cant help you with that one, i know you can specify resonated or non resonated, when you get it installed, whats involved in changing it over, i do not know.. best to ask a local perfomace shop..

Mine due been looking around and it seem that non resonated are loud, I quite like the tone of mine. Don't wanna get looked at for the wrong reasons !

When i got my S3 it had the Milteck resonated system on so i bought the un resenated section directly from milteck job done.
It is basicaly the section from behind the cats to the rear box, Just without the silencer.
Noise wise it made little diffrence to start with but over a few weeks things seemed to get a little deeper ( not sure why as there is no silencer to "bed in") Dont expect it to be group b rally car loud though.
As said before fitting my decat and 3 inch down pipe made the most diffrence but at the highest cost.
