S3 Gear Stick Play

Have a 2007 S3, installed a short shifter and the Draft Design metal bushings which has made a massive difference in the feel of the gearstick but the gear stick still has a lot of play.

The different gears don't really seem to be well defined and there's a bit of play in the gearstick when the car is in gear. Is this normal for the S3? Is there anything I can do to improve the feel of the gear stick/ make it more notchy?

I think it really depends to what you're comparing.
Most cars have a bit of play, although I would say the S3 8P is pretty tight.
Compared to French cars it should very rigid and firm, compared to let's say some a Ford Focus it may feel a little less tight.
First thing to check are the cable connections/connecting rods, any play there will be very noticable at the end of the line.
