Hi all

I recently purchased a Miltek turbo back with 100 cell sports cat, de-resonated centre section etc and fitted this yesterday.
At the same time, an Evolution remap was applied to the car (the place that does the fitting also is an ECU calibration/specialist who do some very funky work). I am aware this is a flash map and not a custom-tune but here is my initial reviews.

The car sounds great. Motorway driving isn't much different but as soon as you start to open the car up, it feels great.

We road tested with fuelling gear on and a SnapOn scanner into the ODB port to measure the spark.
First thing I found was the car would launch itself to 4500k, then the boost feels to drop off then it comes back in again.
Annoyingly, when downshifting into this area, the car feels flat - almost choked.

Now I've done about 2k miles on the car as standard and certainly the car is quicker, it just doesn't drive as nice - and thats what I was hoping to get out of the map. I don't mind more power, but I want the drivability to be equally as good.

The lack of mid-range is taking a little getting used to.
NB - I must add - other than the miltek, the car is totally standard. The fuelling figures were definitely in the right areas (I come from heavily modifying cars i.e. 500bhp new shape Mini) and I felt at first there may have been too much ignition advance and the car was raking it back and thus the feeling of the power backing off but the scanner didnt show much if any ******.

Any thoughts? Do I need an air filter/induction to iron this out? Is the turbo generating boost too early and it can't breath quick enough/compressor stall?

I will be getting the car Revo'd / A.N.Other map in due course but wanted any thoughts on the above and if this is how the cars develop and I need to get used to it?

Thanks all!

I had Milltek an SHARK and it was perfect.
Fast and smooth.

Sounds like a map issue.
I would get it reflashed right away to be on the safe side.

For drivability you need a Progressive map. For me Shark ticked the box also.

Remember, you''ll need the RS4 fuel valve and uprated HPFP to improve the mid range considerably.

Agree - definitely feels like a map issue. But having both the fuel and the spark checked, it appears to be more boost related I'd say.
Nothing was touched around the turbo (other than the downpipe) and it doesn't sound to be losing boost.

I'll get the stock map flashed back on. My plan is a Loba HPFP, Revo air system and a new FMIC in the near future. Just awaiting quotes/prices etc

Thanks for the replies. Was the Shark a DIY flash or is that done at a workshop also?

If you buy the STS box then you can do it DIY. Works really well.

I have a spare STS box for sale actually:eyebrows:.

Sorry I can't help with your current mid range issue but how the hell did you manage 500bhp from a MINI, R53 or R56?

Sounds like the same issue I have with dropping fuel rail pressure. Get LOBA fuel pump and RS4 regulator and things should improve. Mine with stock settings is just managing to hold requested pressure but once I set aggresive boost up the pressure drops mid range and I can feel lack of torque and power

Thanks for the replies :)

Looks like my stage 2+ plans will be brought forward then!

Regarding the Mini - lots of time and investment! R53 with custom 1.7 sleeved Mini engine, stroker crank/rods, ceramic coated pistons, rotrex charger etc etc

Made 445whp and it ran in Time Attack for half a dozen rounds :)

Very nice car.

Found your thread, and it looks as if you'll enjoy yourself with the S3.

500+bhp is doable, and if you apply the same sort of build qualities as you have to the Mini,it should be reliable, but a good bit heavier than the Mini.
