Get a pic of what you want before you go Ash..it sounds like you might be in danger of being sold a boot latch mechanism at this rate! Bloody scrapyard owners preying on the weak!

Ash - Nope, I still have the brakes, and hugs won't make my car stop any faster! :moa: Thanks for the offer though x

No, I was waiting to hear back from you actually, but I think I can stop waiting now! I'll stick them up for sale on here and hope for the best. Could've bought a full half leather/alcantara interior for what they've cost!!!

As above - I don't have the facilities or spare car to undertake more major work at the moment, so it will just have to wait. It's all very well saying "It only takes a few hours", but those of us who have carried out hundreds of jobs on our cars know that Murphy's law ALWAYS applies: If something can go wrong, it will.

I too lived in the middle of nowhere until three years ago, with barns and sheds aplenty, and two cars to my name. I took all the space for granted, and am looking forward to having a decent house with a decent workshop again!

Oh don't worry about that, if you don't want something you don't want it :) If you only wanted front brakes you were obviously better off buying those! Hope you get them on soon :)

I wouldn't worry about the splash guards too much, I ran my old Mk4 Golf round for years with cut down rear guards and no front guards (due to porsche brake setup) with no adverse effect, it's certainly not worth the extra expense of the S3 hubs, if you managed to get some bargain hubs then it would probably be worth it as they are alloy compared to the cast standard ones. Obviously the R32 used the same hubs which widens the search area.

Quite a straight forward swap, fit the new brakes but leave the old caliper connected until everything is assembled, that way you will only lose a small quantity of fluid when you swap the two hoses over.

Hmmm, hopefully this is not what you told your insurance company when you rang them up to declare your brake mod as this information alone will VOID your insurance!

There must be a reason why Audi have spent £££££ in research in this area and I would rather go by their standard. Think of the damage of water splashes, debris damage and coming soon, salt and grit baths etc...

Get over yourself Dean, I don't know who you insure yourself with or who told you that gem of information but you are incorrect, Brembo's never came as standard on the Mk4 Golf, the pipework was made to my spec by Goodridge and the brackets were machined by a friend. I never had an issue when my insurers were told this. Likewise my Mk3 Cortina, which I fitted a Small Block V8 into, virtually everything had to be modified or manufactured in order to make it fit, no issue getting insurance on that either. Believe it or not people do fit/make non OEM parts........

The only potential issue I can see with not running them is large quantities of cold water coming into contact with a hot disc which may cause warpage, if road debris was to get as far up as the back of the disc it would be the least of your worries and as for grit/salt it's a bit of metal rotating between two abrasive pads constantly........

    Each to their own anyhow.

Lmfao, are you serious??!! I don't actually know what century you were "fitting small block V8's to your mk6 cortina" but I think you'll find insurance legislation has changed drastically since then. I do know there is a choice of aftermarket kits available to fit cars and people are more than welcome fit them.

I chose to go OEM and that's my choice. You have already highlighted the problems for not fitting shields so I rest my case. :keule::no:

You are quite right though, each to their own!

Ps. I'm with Esure and all my mods are declared.

No, it's a 1972 Mk3 Cortina, that I currently own, drive, race and have insured with Adrian Flux......The Audi is insured with Chris Knott, as I said, both specialist insurers.

If you look at the likes of a Porsche 911,996, Boxster etc, they have very small dust shields fitted that quite frankly do nothing.

Anyhow, enough arguing about dust shields for me today.

Yeah those are the parts alright, but on the first pic at about 6 o'clock there is a 'hole' at the bottom between those two bolts where there should be a bolt that holds that part I was telling you about that's missing, on the + side though, you have shields and bearings. Just double-check the part number of the one you have on your car and hopefully you can swap it.

Right still not any closer to getting these fitted:( Last hubs and splash guards got stolen from a mates garage while he was on holiday with alot of his MK5 Golf bits. So back to hunting down some hubs.

I've found a set of hubs but the salvage yard not willing to break them and wants to sell the hubs complete with the front suspension and calipers etc etc. Is there any benefit to having an S3 front suspension? As i cant really see there being any major benefit if any:think:
I've made an offer for just the hubs and splash guards. And I am awaiting a reply.
He offering it at quite a good price so could just sell the other S3 brakes and etc on.

Fitting S3 front dampers is pretty pointless as the rear dampers wont be the same, thus weird handling.

I think you are wasting money on the hubs to be honest with you, why can you/your mechanic not just measure and drill a new set of mounting holes in the S3 Splash Guard?

Thanks for the advise on the front suspension. Thought it would be a waste of time.
Well as stated below it looks like i 100% need the hubs to actually get the S3 front brakes to fit. Cheers

I can assure you 100% S3 Hubs are not needed.

If you like I can do the following tonight:

Take one standard FWD A3 Hub, one 345mm Disc and an S3 Caliper bolt them together and take a picture along with a notice saying "Heeman10 is wrong" ?

All I can think of is Heeman bought the wrong caliper brackets, maybe from an Audi Allroad (that also uses these calipers)

think if you can get Ash's brakes to fit without the need for new hubs, the man will get down on one knee and ask to marry you lol
